pradesh refers to a province or state in Hindi and Urdu.

Some states of the Republic of India bear the word pradesh in reference to them being a subnational entity.

Currently, there are five Indian states whose official name bears the word pradesh:

* Arunachal Pradesh, Arunacha = Land of the Sun (i.e., Sunrise)
* Andhra Pradesh, homeland of the Andhras or Telugus
* Madhya Pradesh, Central Province, replacing the former Central India Provinces which was later renamed as Madhya Bharat
* Himachal Pradesh, Himachal = Snowy land
* Uttar Pradesh, Northern Province, although not the north-most province; it was formerly the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh

Andhra Pradesh is a state in southern India.

It lies between 12掳41' and 22掳N latitude and 77掳 and 84掳40'E longitude, and is bordered by Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Orissa in the north, the Bay of Bengal in the East, Tamil Nadu to the south and Karnataka to the west.

Andhra Pradesh is the fifth largest state in India by area and population. It is the largest and most populous state in South India.
