How to make torpedoes? |

They have to be able to take the pressures and stresses of rapid movement through the water without diversion from line with the target. Most modern torpedoes have an internal guidance system, often combined with sonar. Basically, a torpedo is a bomb designed for movement from one ship to another. All have limited range, depending upon the type and quantity of fuel. In addition, the current fuels (like the US Navy OTTO fuel) are dangerous (both toxic and hypergolic). The basic design is like a submarine with steerable fins (almost always at the back, but sometime about mid-length). The explosive warhead is at the front; some modern torpedoes have a smaller burster charge at the front to make a hole in the target ship before the main charge detonates. Today, the use of torpedoes is being reconsidered in light of more accurate and dependable ship-to-ship missiles. Why are you asking? Do you want to make one? I would highly recommend you don't try.
