Source(s): http://www.science.edu.sg Other Travel Tips There are many exhibits where one can experience science hands-on by touch and feel, and also the everyday science in daily life is presented in easy-to-understand methods. There are other activities organised regularly by the Science Centre, like star-gazing at the Observatory. There is a large IMAX theatre within the complex as well. An ice palace is next to the complex, where one can experience snow in sunny Singapore, by skiing and playing with snowballs. enjoy the science exhibition.... quite fascinating, i must add... learn science see science Singapore Science Centre (SSC, Chinese language: 鏂板姞鍧$瀛﹂) is a world-acclaimed scientific institution in Jurong East, Singapore, specialising in the promotion of scientific and technological education for the general public. With over 850 exhibits spread over eight exhibition galleries, it sees over a million visitors a year today, and over 17 million visitors up to the year 2003 when it celebrated its silver jubilee. It's quite easy to spend all day in here, especially if you have kids and combine it with the OMNI Theatre and Snow City in one visit. The centre is showing its age a little, but the multiple levels of interactive displays (nearly 900 of them in all) covering subjects like the human body, aviation, optical illusions, ecosystems, the universe and robotics are thoroughly absorbing. The principles of flight, the animal kingdom and the complex world of electronics are just some of the subjects embraced by the 850 interactive exhibits at the Singapore Science Centre. These innovative and hands-on displays have never failed to enthral adults and children alike since the centre opened in 1978. One highlight is the Energy Exhibition with more than 70 dramatic, highly charged displays to assault the senses, spread over eight areas of the display hall. There's also the Hall of IT (information technology), an innovative exhibition featuring IT in education, at work, at play, in the home and on the move. A S$38-million revamp saw new facilities being added, including a Kinetic Garden - an interactive garden with 35 sculptures, exhibits and water features - as well as an Annex Building featuring technology-based travelling exhibitions. Regular special exhibitions and displays keep the interest factor ticking over, but permanent highlights include the Millenium Simulator (Tickets: adult/child S$3/2) ride that takes you through the heart of an active volcano. The Singapore Science Centre is a very popular item on the school trip calendar and you can often find yourself overwhelmed by hordes of jostling, wild, uniformed scamps eager to prevent you from trying out the exhibits. |
