I am considering a move from Texas to South Africa (Port Elizabeth)...Help?

Travel Info
I have three young children and am soon to be divorced. I am considering a move to South Africa's Port Elizabeth Area. Wondering if anyone has made an international move from the US to SA with children and how that worked out. Also, employment opportunities... know any good sites for a regular girl who only holds an associates degree in prelaw (which won't help in SA i know). Safe areas to live, Safety Issues i need to be aware of, Schools to stay away from -- any help from the locals would be wonderful as well. Thanks so much!

Travel Tips
I lived in Port Elizabeth for a number of years and am a qualified lawyer. It is a beautiful city but I would not advise anyone from a first world country to move there. It might be OK if you are rich and don't need to work but otherwise no. As a qualified lawyer I had work but the pay compared to Johannesburg and the UK was terrible and this is because there are just more qualified people than jobs. You have to accept that because the demand for jobs far outweighs the number of available jobs that employers are the powerhouse and can both pay less and replace you easily. The safest area in Port Elizabeth is where I lived by the sea as this is a tourist haven and therefore the police do bother to try keep it safe BUT it got so bad before I left that as a woman you cannot just stroll on the beach when you want as there were 3 rapes on the beach the year I left. Your freedom as a woman is curtailed because of the dangers of rape and you have to be constantly vigilant. The property by the beachfront is also the most expensive. You have some reasonably good schools there (Walmer suburb not too far from the beach) such as Victoria High, Grey, Framseby and there is also a university near by. If you have a job already life would be far easier and perhaps you should contact General Motors in the US as they have a big branch in Port Elizabeth which does have a legal department (which is quite small I think). Because of the affirmative action issues both your children and you would have more success if you are black (this is not meant as racist at all) but an employer will hire a black person above a person of mixed race (they do differentiate in south africa between black and mixed race) or white, asian etc. Companies have to have a certain percentage of black employees or get fined which makes it a little easier to find a job for you then. as they will usually hire someone who meets the quota for affirmative action over someone equally qualified who doesn't but this also means women will be hired before men. Good luck whatever your decision. Source(s): Myself

Why SA? Your moving without a job?Hmmmmmmm.
I moved just the other way around. Feel free to email me with specifics.

Personally guys - anything outside the US is good - even SA ok!
**the h is feeling realistic here ...**
Only an insane person would emigrate from a first world country to the land of thieves and murderers'.
Please do some research on crime in South African and also regarding the ruling government's racist and opressive attitude to Europeans.
You have small children to consider and South Africa should not even be an option for you, considering the fact that children and babies are raped in South Africa every hour, are mutililated for the manufacture of African medicines, countless have been abducted by the thugs of this land never to be returned or found and violents crimes and murder in general are an hourly occurence.
As a single mother, you should also consider that woman are not regarded as equals in terms of African culture.
South Africa is a third world country with unemployment rates in excess of 40%, the chance of a foreigner finding employment in this country are slim to nothing and when governments racist policies of BEE and AA are taken into account, you would end up begging on the street with your children.
Please for the sake of your own safety, health and sanity and for your children, reconsider this ill thought move.
Google crime South Africa, I beg you.
Why are you willing to move your children so far away from their father? Are you punishing him?
Regarding your move, go on the active forums at websites like www.visajourney.com and www.visapro.com and talk to people that have done what you wish to do. Speak to those leaving S.A. and those moving there and get a better overall view of why they are doing so.
All that mess about the Blacks have taken over and S.A. is a hell hole is full of it. South Afriica's economy is still controlled by the Whites, the very reason the Blacks are still suffering and resorting to crime in some cases.
