Help..........I need to get wireless internet? |
Travel Info Im not to clued up on it..........pls give me some advice and how it works...............iburst seems an option but they dont have a wide coverage............do you still have to work through a telephone or cellphone ...................HELP Travel Tips There are different ways of going about it. If your cellphone is GPRS or WAP enabled with bluetooth or infrared you can stick a bluetooth or infrared dongle in your PC and connect wirelessly to the internet. The cellphone setup disc and the setup disc for the dongle will explain to you how it is done. Disadvantage it's quite slow. If you want to have your PC connected independently of your cellphone you can either buy or contract for a 3G card or an i-burst station. These gadgets you plug into your PC and they make the connection for you. Disadvantage quite expensive. There are more expensive options with satellite dishes and suchlike. I use a 3G card through Vodacom and my biggest problem (apart from price) is that the local tower is very erratic some days I easily make the 3G connection at 1.8 meg and other days I can only get GPRS at 256k. Others If you are in one of the major cities iBurst is the way to go. You don't need any lines or cellphones and you get connected within 48 hours. And you just call them they deliver. GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA are too expensive but they are you other option if you have a cellphone that has them, plug it in your PC/Laptop via (usb/bluetooth) and use it as a modem and it's very fast. South Africa is as technologically advance as any country in the world. May I suggest you go into mweb.co.za and they will sort you out with a wireless connection. You can even use as pay as you go type internet connection. Cheers. iburst is a brilliant option, but as you say, coverage is limited. hsdpa/3g/edge/gprs is a a good option as well, but cell networks can get pricey. it depends where you are going to mostly use the service, and for what. once you have decided on that, then choose an option that will suit your lifestyle and pocket. the general has answered this from his cellphone. But you guys are in the Southern Hemisphere. How can them gizmos work with their antenna pointing down like that? check out @lantic.I sold one last week.very nice.R249 monthly with no hidden costs. |
