Transfer time, OR Thambo International Airport (Johannesburg, South Africa)? |
Travel Info I'm arriving at OR Thambo Airport at 09h05 on Swiss International Airways. My transfer is with mango airlines check in no later than 10h00. Can I make this transfer, is it too short? I have 55 minutes to go get my luggage, for customs and immigration. I then have to walk to the Domesic terminal and check in for my flight to Cape Town. Any suggestions, ideas to get me there quicker?? Your answers would be greatly appreciated Travel Tips I wouldn't bet on making it on time- sorry to sound so negative, but when I landed on OR Tambo from the States, I waited at least 30 minutes for my luggage to arrive. There is currently construction going on and if I'm not mistaken you have to leave the one building and walk outside on the sidewalk to the Domestic building to check in. Walking there wouldn't take THAT long- it's more the luggage part that would have me worried. Good luck! Others I've done it in less time between 2 international connecting flights. But that was at Hong Kong airport, not Africa... good luck tiaan.if tiaan is s.afr then ull get the customs thing done pretty quick,but the luggage?? then if you look like a pirate u may be searched. mango,lsnt that the new air service??fly direct lf possible.if not cant answer this. Last year I flew into Johannesburg and it took me 3 hours to go through customs. I think you should allow yourself at least three hours keeping in mind that you still have to walk from the International section to Domestic which can also be very confusing. There is no quick way to do this even a bribe won't help. The airport itself in terms of infrastucturing is now all done and complete. You don't have to walk outside anymore from an International terminal to a Domestic terminal. The only thing they still need to improve (which is very frustrating for connecting passengers) is to prioritise luggage transfer for those who are connecting. For this problem, yes 55 minutes is too little for connecting in OR Thambo Airport. Talking from experience, I have missed flights twice from OR to Dbn while waiting for luggage. Good luck. it's possible, but highly improbable. or tambo is not known for effeciency these days. the general ponders. |
