Should the SA government get involved in sport? |
Travel Info I think it's very racist of the government to force players into teams, like in rugby, because they are not white, when there are better white players. If you are the best, you should play for your team, be it club, provincial or national. There are many realy excelent non-white players that are the best, & deserve to be in those teams, like Bryan Habanna, JP Peterson, Heinie Adams, Akona & Odwa Ndungane & there are so many others. I feel, if they want to enter more non-whites in a sport like rugby, they should start by building these players from school levels & develope them from a young age. Then they will be the best & I speek for every rugby fan out there, we don't care what the colour of the player is, as long as he is the best. It's like taking Roland Schoeman & Ryk Neethling out of swimming SA & replacing them with someone from the township, that has never even been in a real swimming pool... Travel Tips You are 100% right. Why should the government force black players to play rugby. If white people don't want us to play let it be. Instead of waisting resources on a sport that is not even an olympic sport. Why can't the government build resources and give funds to sports that are egger for young S. Africans of all races, like you mensioned swimming, tennis, cricket and athletics. I have seen the great job swimming SA is doing if only they had more money. Tennis I feel we have so much potential in this country and they aredesperate for players of all colours but there is no money. If the government can give money and support to the sports the are willing to give everyone a chance and want to unify this country. Rugby wants to be its own island then let it be. Look alread cricket has overtook rugby as the 2nd biggest sport in the country which means high viewership which means more money. If you don't believe me ask any black person to name 5 springboks and then ask them to name any 5 protea's. Athletics; With more TV time and the right marketing has the potential to compete with soccer. Rugby has to be the only sport in the whole world that would turndown a chance to grow its audience. The point of the quotas system is to spark interest amongs black young people to play the sport but *sigh* JA! "IT'S RACISM!". What a shame and it's such a good sport. The government should not bother with them. Others You make a good point dude , I dont see how sport and politics are linked , sport is supposed to be for fun and relaxation - even if you dont play , watching is also fun and relaxing - by puttting players that are not ready as yet , just kills the game for the players and spectators. Besides one thing that bugs me is y isnt there a push to put more players of "colour" in the soccer team for eg , they go on about Rugby not transforming but im sure that ther are more players of different colours in Rugby that in soccer(i stand to be corrected) There are more serious issues in this country for the government to worry about.... The government can barely run itself, let alone sports as well. We'll end up with a laughing stock of a team that can't play the game or win against grade schoolers but hey at least they will be politically correct! i say it's easy - if the person (no matter the skin colour) qualifies to play for the south african team or any team for that matter, on merit and talent - let them play. i couldn't care if the oke scoring the try or whacking a 6 is black or white, as long as he has earned his place on the team by merit and working hard to get there. the general has spoken. Why try and make sense out of the racist scum the ANC. Their agenda is to get rid of Whites and Rugby is just another vehicle in which to attack them. Lets wait until they interfere in the International football team for FIFA have very strict rules about Governments doing this. Greece have been banned from FIFA competitions for doing just that. Now when the ANC interferes on the football side we should all resolve to report them to FIFA and get them banned as well. Then 2010 will definitely be gone for good. |
