"Members of the portfolio committee on sport lined up to accuse rugby administrators of not doing enough to develop rugby at school and club level and of paying lip service to demands for racial transformation."
But is it not the government who alocates a budget for the schools, which the schools then use to purchase equipment, pay for maintenance of sports facilities etc.

"Komphela recently suggested the players should have their passports impounded if the team did not become more representative of the country's ethnic mix, although the idea was quickly shot down by the government. "

"Tsietsi Louw, another ANC member of the committee, said that black players aspiring to play for the national side were running into obstacles that had nothing to do with their ability. "

It hasnt got too much to do with the sport , particularly the sports of Cricket and Rugby, so look at the bigger picture. The ANC hatred of Whites and particularly the Afrikaaner is well documented in their own manifestos etc. Rugby has always been a sport particularly liked and dominated by the Afrikaans community and what better way to attack them by making the Springbok team Black. They know it will upset the Afrikaans people and that is their sole intention as the sport is far from popular with Africans.
The ANC are utter racists interested only themselves and their elite and have never given up their ambition to drive Whites out of South Africa. This is all part of the master plan and watch the Manager go in double quick time to be replaced by one of the ANC faithful.
'Imagine a situation in which the England Rugby coach, Brian Ashton, was forced to request a meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, because he was under political pressure to include certain players in the national rugby team because their families had political connections with the Labour party. The equivalent is happening, under the ANC, in South Africa鈥? says Donald Lee, Democratic Alliance spokesman on sport. 'Imagine a situation in which the selectors for the Australian rugby team have to sit down and choose a squad but, instead of being able to rely on their own expertise and knowledge of the game, they have to consult the family of the players and accommodate their wishes. The equivalent happens under the ANC, in South Africa. Imagine a situation where the New Zealand rugby team is told by the government that winning is no longer a priority; instead New Zealand rugby should focus on how best to implement the ruling party鈥檚 political programme of action. The equivalent happens under the ANC, in South Africa. And imagine a situation where the French rugby team are told by their sports administrators 鈥?who are acting on instructions from government 鈥?that their selection is no longer based on their skill or ability, but rather on what colour their skin is, and whether or not they support the French ruling party. The equivalent happens under the ANC, in South Africa. The ANC鈥檚 view of South African sport is that it is not a open sphere in which all South Africans can develop and fulfil their potential, but a closed circle, which a few politically well-connected individuals of a particular race can get selected. The news is that Jake White has requested a meeting with President Mbeki to discuss the political pressure that has been placed on him by the South African Rugby Union (SARU) to select players for reasons other than professional merit. According to reports, SARU plans to have 10 black players in the squad by 2008. Also, Jake White and John Smit, the captain, will both be fired because they are not 鈥楢frican鈥?enough. They will be replaced by Peter de Villiers and Luke Watson as coach and captain respectively. Apparently the Watson family was consulted on the Springbok selection. SARU believes that both de Villiers and Watson have sufficient 鈥榮truggle credentials鈥?to 鈥淎fricanise鈥?the squad鈥? (See below: Rugby - repeating mistakes of the past').

Corruption...
You don't have a government, but a criminal elite running what used to be South Africa, who are some of the most bald-faced racists I have ever seen.
Their vicious racist policies apparently extend to sport also. A sport - like rugby - in South Africa has for decades been part of Afrikaner culture, with an effective farming system from the school level up. That won't change overnight. You can't force blacks to be interested in what is essentially an Afrikaner sport.
Just select the best players. Period.

Just curious - how many whites on the South African soccer team?
this is yet another example of the anc's way of telling white people they re not welcome in south africa.

as you mentioned, i agree that anyone who can get into the team on merit should play, but if someone is not up to standard, why should you let them play just because of the colour of their skin?
the general has spoken.
They don麓t understand the essence of boeresports.
cause they got no brains
