I find it difficult to believe that South Africans would be ignorant enough to vote vile terrorists such as Nelson Mandela and Winnie Mandela into the top 10 as well as drunkard lunatics such as Mbeki, it is attrocious. The list is in my opinion extremely poorly compiled and it's only saving grace is the inclusion of the late great Jan Smuts. Who would be represented in your top 5 for interests sakes? Personally I think the list is just a reflection of whose image has been marketed the most. "Hosted by Noeleen Maholwana Sangqu." This woman is as thick as a banana milkshake. I watched her hosting Jeremy Mannsfield on her SABC morning show about 4 years back. I was rolling on the floor laughing at Jeremy, she never understood a single joke and proceeded to conduct the dimmest, most uninformed interview that I have ever witnessed. There are so many different opinions from different cultures in SA about what makes a great South African, I麓m surprised there are no serial rapists or murderers mentioned. It seems to be an aspired to personna of late. Of course you are correct and politically Jan Smuts is probably the only true Statesman that South Africa has ever had. Other great South Africans would be in the fields of Medecine, Archaelogy,Engineering and Sports. My top 5 list will look like this: 1. General Jan Smuts 2. Either Francois Pienaar, Ernie Els, Gary Player , Natalie du Toit, Zola Budd, Hestrie Cloete or Elana Meyer. 3. Prof Christiaan Barnard 4.
