How paranoid are you regarding crime in South Africa and what steps have you taken to protect yourselves? |
Travel Info What kind of security does your home have? Do you look over your shoulder when you walk? Do you still venture out at night? Do you carry any kind of self defense weapon with you? Have you developed phobia's regarding the locking of doors and closing of windows yet? Travel Tips ***What kind of security does your home have?*** -Electric fence with alarm Radio panic button and reaction service. The house was designed with all the windows to high to reach from the ground level. All balconies are walled or built up with retaining walls. motion sensors and 3 sleep in dogs. ***Do you look over your shoulder when you walk?*** Yup and when I drive into my drive way approach my car and so on. ***Do you still venture out at night?*** Yes, from safe area to safe area. ***Do you carry any kind of self defense weapon with you?*** No They can take what they want, I just wont struggle. ***Have you developed phobia's regarding the locking of doors and closing of windows yet?*** Before I go to bed I double check all the doors and windows. I also lock the garage doors electronically. including some internal doors. I also ensure that the electric fence is clicking away every night. Have had cars broken into in my garden more times that I can remember (more than 20 times) only one attempted house break in but the thief was chased away by the dogs. After saying all that I was robbed of 3000 euros in Portugal. I think crime is increasing all over the world not only here. Others At night i totally lock the doors and windows unless its a warm summer night i might leave a window open but yea i venture out at night but i usually venture with a friend.Sometimes i do look over my shoulder when i walk because i might hear something i dont usually hear or i might hear someone walking behind me so i just want a look to see if its my neighbor. Why do u need to know what security homes have? Are u planning to rob someone? No i would never carry a weapon with me only when i was going to somewhere dangerous Live in a complex so my unit doesnt have any security devices like an alarm - the complex however is very secure - 24hr guards , electric fencing... I do go out at night but to safe places used to carry a gun but not anymore - the wife to be hates them.... Dear G.W.Bush 4*** * Electric fencing surrounding the estate. * Only outside the estate. Inside we have our own Shopping centre, hairdressing salons etc. Everything we need, is in our estate. * We don't go out as much as we did. We used to love going down to the beach at night, cattlemans, etc. but have not done that for many years now. * My big, big, hunk.!! * Before, I could not go to sleep without bolting the sliding doors, (had three bolts in it), 2 bolts and 2 yales on the front and back door, steel windows with bars, and last our alarm system. NOW, at the estate, no burglar alarms, only have one key for our doors, no security alarms. VERY difficult adjusting, as we wake up for every noise at the moment!!!!!! Luv peppa-anne 1. Our home has absolutely no additional security. No burglar bars, no alarm, we don't even have walls to keep people out of our front yard. The funny thing is I've lived there 20 years and we've had no break ins. I guess the thieves figure we're to poor to have anything of great value inside, since we don't spend money protecting it. 2. I am very aware when walking down the street, I've witnessed 2 muggings - so that's understandable. 3. I don't go out at night, unless I have to, or I'm with a group of people. 4. I carry pepper spray, to scared of getting shot with my own gun. 5. I don't have phobia's about locking doors, but I've become so used to locking them that it just happens these days. Hello this is MR Cash I try not to live my life in fear!!Just do normal things like lock up at night etc. Its not good to be paranoid cause it affects your life negatively. On the other hand you cant be too relaxed I'm just waiting for the day a monkey tries to steal my bananas!I'm ready for him! Well lets see the other night i forgot to lock the security gate of the house We never lock the door only the gate i dont even have a key for the door come to think of it I n the summer we sleep with the balcony door open (there is no security gate etc) Our windows doesnt have barriers on them (we keep the curtains closed at the windows that you can see in from the street) My car doesn't have an alarm We do have at least a wall with a electrical gate and we have ADT. I still travel at night but don't really stop at a stop street or robot i will only slow down i don't carry a weapon of any kind i don't want to be killed with my own weapon I believe that we are going be scared something is going to happen to you Have you never notice that if you leave your car unlock it doesn't get stolen but when you do lock it, it does We something is to easy people tend to think that there is a catch so they would just leave it |
