Are the Colored races of S Africa natural allies of Afrikaners? |
Travel Info Have Afrikaners been successful in co-opting their mixed race compatriots psychologically in their complicit struggle against the Africans of Africa in hopes of the Colored earning a "reward" and becoming "honorary" Europeans? Essentially, are Colored S Africans in the new S Africa confused about their allegiance either to a. Afrikaners, b. Africans or c. the idea of a new S Africa - free of european/white minority agitation or domination? Travel Tips In part, that is correct. Whites have created their own allies. I am afraid many S Africans who are not considered African or European have selected the Afrikaners since they were previously powerful. That is one reason why so many Colored speak Afrikaans and have cultures that romanticize the life they "enjoyed" under apartheid with relatively more freedoms and career options than Africans. This is another symptom of the sick divide and conquer historical tactic of the whites in S Africa. Others Only losers use the word 'coloured' to describe a person with dark skin. The pure africans need only be allied to themselves.B It depends were you are in the country. This I know from experience. Cape Town = whites( They will even call you by the K word). PE = 50/50 East London = Black Durban = Black Jozi = Black. Pretoria = Black. Bloem = I don't know What do you imply by referring to Afrikaners? Most of the "coloured" community in South Africa speak Afrikaans or a dialect thereof so from a language point of view yes. There was never an attempt to co-opt the coloured community into the European one but at some point certain leading Afrikaner politicians sought to bestow honourary Afrikaner status on the Afrikaans speaking coloured community. Coloured South Africans are not "confused" about their allegiance as you incorrectly generalise. The political affiliation in the coloured community does differ among communities quite substantially. The rampant black nationalism practised by the ANC has marginalised some of the coloured sector prompting them to vote against the ruling party. The ineffectiveness of all the opposition parties in South Africa often prompts others to vote for the ruling party although parties like the DP, ACDP and ID do command votes from the coloured community, the largest of which is in the Western Cape. The common concern for most coloured people is not with the government per se but with the inefficiency of the government in dealing with crime, particularly gangsterism and drugs, which has the highest occurrence in coloured communities. I am a so called Cape "coloured" We are born natural allies of whites, we are cousins after all. Great granddaddy Van Riebeeck and his cronies are responsible for the existence of both the Afrikaner and us bruin-ou's. LOL. No, I don't think that coloured's are natural allies of Afrikaners, but coloured people were taught that they were ahead of black SA'ns by the apartheid regime and it still tends to float around in the minds of old timers. This filters down to the kids and will be around for a while to come still. The fact that pro-coloured mentality is frowned upon by black SA'ns, (while being black and proud is taught throughout society) makes it easier for coloureds to associate them with whiteys. Another thing is that most black people detest coloureds for speaking the language of the oppressor. I spend a lot of my time in predonimanantly black company and the word 'Boesman' is quite frequently used to refer to coloureds, but it doesn't really bother me. I've got used to hearing it so much, it rolls off my mind before I even think of responding. The only problem is that I'm never allowed to use the K-word, ever. That's a conversation/friendship killer, right there. Having said that, I think black people has a lot of race issues, even between the different tribes (for lack of a better word.) *Edit* See how I typed the word 'Boesman' without thinking twice, but could not get myself to typing 'Kaffir'. Ay, the beauty of race consciousness. Ouch, a thumbs down. Not nice. |
