Why have no former colonies in Africa prospered? |
Travel Info And yet there are shining examples in other parts of the world,for example Hong Kong, Singapore, Malayasia, Brazil just to name a few. Travel Tips Zim, you epitomise what the ANC and in essence this question is about - blame everybody else and don't take responsibility for economic failure. (Ja,,ja you've "been on record" for saying all kinds of things, but you seem to contradict yourself all the time - another ANC trait) There has been tribal warfare (and still is) long before any European set foot in sub-Saharan Africa. The answer to this question is partly bad leaders in combination with ill-informed and gullible citizens. Oh, and of course an evergreen (or is that everwhite) scapegoat when these leaders run out of excuses for their failures. Others Because it's Africa??? No offense, but Africa never seems like a place with tons to offer despite its abundance of natural resources. The only things we hear about Africa are usually about AIDS and poverty. On America's Next Top Model, they tried to claim that Africa had a thriving fashion community... but not really. And then they just showed some more about how Africa's poor. Even hearing about Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama's dad and other successful people from Africa... one was in jail for a long time, the other was a goat herder... what's prospered in Africa? I have had the pleasure to live in several post colonial nations, including Zimbabwe and S Africa. Every one has been undercut and sabotaged by the fleeing whites as they have lost power - including S Africa. From stealing monetary resources to destruction of hard capital equipment. From refusing to train the people who will replace them to letting land lay idle rather than growing crops, Europeans have shown they are loathe to leave their African cash cows. The whites have set up the Africans to fail and set up shop to say "I told you so..." It is despicable and tragic that the Europeans across the board have been so vindictive and petty minded. They are worse than useless....they cripple progress and many Africans have not just failed because of it - but died on their account. Why are farmers being killed? It is the wrong farmers who are paying with their lives for the others who have stolen resources for a long time and mistreated the Africans with low wages and virtually no training. The more whites who go to America and carp across the ocean - the better. Those of us who stay have bridges to build and work to do. Even those like Heavy D, former SADF??, can work toward a better day in S Africa when he thinks for himself and undoes some of the damage he caused. If you are not up to the task, get out of the way. The man who spent 27 years in jail fighting for justice is an attorney and a very sharp mind leading a social movement. As others on this board have stated more violently and clearly, you are an example-idiot and evidence why change n Africa means so much that those who are not African must leave. Take a look at Jacobite's patronizingly racist answer, and you have half the reason. It's because of deluded half-wits like him that blacks in Africa have been lulled by a white liberal siren song of blame deflection, so that any ill that befalls the continent of Africa is blamed on the ever useful 'legacy of colonialism.' The other reason is because the African culture of the-chief-as- the-ultimate-authority is more perfectly suited to a corrupt Communist mindset than it is to a true democracy. This is agood question and I am ready to answer it. But before I do that, give me one African country that went through civil wars that were not conceived and/or fuelled by the west/europe? Can we just stop blaming each other??? I just believe that everyone has different talents and the African mindset IS focussed more towards communism, which, in itself, is like cutting your own feet off. Bad leadership and corruption? |
