White women moving to South Africa?

I thought I would ask my question again..in a different way. I'm a 19 yr old women who attends Univ of Florida. I plan on moving to S. Africa within the next year.

Zim & a few others gave me very positive, encouraging comments to go ahead.

I would like to know if i would eventually be socially accepted?

do i need to take EXTRA precautions?

I wish not to be conceived as just another "rich whitey".

Although, I realize that racism will never go away. The white minority controlled South Africa for a while, and I do understand why there is hatred and bias towards whites. However, I'd like to know if i live in a decent neighborhood, don't travel at night alone, would i be relatively safe?

In your opinion, if i'm at a local restaurant, store...etc...will local South Africans act racist towards me?

Mny people told me that they dont need any more racist whites thr, and for me to wait until Mandela dies. I understnd what they are sayng, but i wish not to live in total fear.

Ask yourself, why would some people go to such BIG BIG trouble to discourage you from visiting another country while your own government is not doing so? Do you think that Washington can keep quiet when its citizens are going to a racist slaughter house where you would die - just because you are white?

Have you ever heard your government referring to South Africa as one of the states that you (as American citizen) should avoid?

At least you know that Ayiza has issues with you because you are white. But does he represent the general feeling of black people in South Africa? For starters, I am black, and I would be happy for you to come to South Africa. But who are Brad and Alf? If you have time study their postings in this forum.

Just as a response to Brad. I know many realities. I lived and studied in UK - Jersey, Channel Islands to be exact. I lived no less than a year in each of the following cities - Havana, Cuba, Luanda, Angola and St Petersburg, Russia. I've spent a total of 14 months in the US.

I know the reality of being discriminated against - just because your skin colour is different from those in power. I ended up living in UK, USSR, Cuba, Tanzania and Angola just because the white minority rulers discriminated against me and other blacks.

I had an option to belong to other liberation movements that were exclusively black. But I took a decision to belong to the ANC - because while it was fighting for liberation of a black person, it declared that "South Africa belongs to all who live in it, Black and White". I knew that it would never betray that solemn declaration.

I don't deny that crime is a problem in this country. But it's unadulterated lie that you cannot go out at night. It's undiluted lie that you'd be targeted - just because you are a White woman.

You have heard from Americans who have either been here or own property in this country. Compare that with negative sentiments from Brad and Alf. As regards Alf, he is still bitter because apartheid was defeated. He was a foreigner who served in the apartheid government's secret services. Both were at some stage living in this country. In fact, the sooner Brad comes back home the better.

Your fear is the only thing that keeps racism alive. Don't live your life in fear. It takes a strong person to go there and show them that you are just a normal person and to change their views. The world is a lot different than it was decades ago...

I really don't know what to tell you, as I live in Florida and have never been near South Africa... there is one thing I do know, and that is that most of the population in South Africa are white and have blond hair and blue eyes... they are really cute and friendly people, many of them work as carnies in the Miami dade fair =]

There's a mass exodus of civilized people from the nightmare that South Africa has become - both white and black - I'd hate to be able to say 'I told you so.'
Of course Zim is going to encourage you to come, South Africa is the only reality he knows.
Rather take note of what WRRR and Ayiza told you on your previous question regarding this, because that's the reception you're going to get.
South africa is a welcoming country and live with black and white as together, that call Ubuntu.
so if you had to move to South Africa, don't worry about racial cause nobody will even notice your color even you are in black community for example if you were have to be in Johannesburg than you can easily take a taxi to Soweto and come back with no scrach in you body, and soweto has many historical place and tourism visit there often.
so the is no need for you to wait for the ex President Sir Nelson Golihlahla Mandela to die first before you can visit a beatifull country in South Africa.
South Africa is a lovely country and yes the is crime but where is a world that there is no crime? Just don't treat people different just because your white or rich.

That is a microcosm of the South African reality and the Country is on a downward spiral towards the same level as Zimbabwe.There are shortages of everything from electricity to food to fuel and they are going to get worse but you make up your own mind. At least we tried to warn you. If that is not enough then Google " Amy Biehl" a young US girl with similar dreams.

The response from Zim $ should give you all the insight you need into the Communist ideology of the ANC. They see Cuba and Russia as paragons of virtue and Countries to which they should aspire. Anyone who opposes that wants "apartheid Back." As for warnings why dont you check out what the Governments of the US,UK,Canada,Australia and New Zealand are warning their citizens about if they are contamplating visiting South Africa.It doesnt make good reading unless it puts you off.
