I wonder if much has changed?

Travel Info
I'm flying home to South Africa for the first time in 2 and a half years, a couple of hours from now. Just wondering how much has really changed in the motherland. I kept up to date daily using the internet, but I guess there's nothing like firsthand experience.

Travel Tips
Welcome back, temporarily.

Gooi a snoek on the fire on the beach front and have a Castle Lager or some rooiwyn.

Enjoy.

Welcome back.Hope you find your stay pleasant.Don't think much has changed but you will notice in South Africa's major cities such as Johannesburg that 2010-Soccer World Cup preparations are underway.
Hey mate. Not much except everything got on average 3.5 times more expensive while I was in the States!

Had some snow in JHB about a week or so ago which of course drove people insane, everyone still at each others throats, but if you ignore the TV and other media you will do fine.

Let me know when you settled in. Maybe braai or something sometime and skinner about the 'goeie ou dae'!

I don't think much has changed in such a short time period.
(Mostly just a zillion street names).

Wouldn't it be freaky if you awoke from a coma that you'd been in for the last 15 years and then had to adjust to the new South Africa?
I'd pay to see that!
I agree with H the biggest change is the price of just about everything. The gap between rich and poor appears to me to have grown considerably. Better budget generously for your trip. However there is no place like home, welcome back albeit temporarily.
Welcome back. Hope you'll enjoy your time home. There won't be much change. If you'd be driving on the N2, you'd notice much road works - the Kaaimas pass between George and Wilderness is going through major transformation after devastating rains of last year. I don't know whether you were aware that there was a big debate about the widening of that stretch of road in Tsitsikamma. After a lot of bickering it's being done.

And by the way, just wave for me when you pass George (if it's weekend) or Plett if it's during the week.

Otherwise not much change.....!!!!
For good or bad, I suppose you will find out soon enough. One thing that still did not change is that it is always someone elses fault, so no worries, if something goes wrong blame it on someone else like the goverment.

P.S. I deed see the crime stats last week, that still is changing in a general upwards direction, which seems to be linked to the general downward direction of electricity supplies and road repairs.
