What are some good things to see between St. Louis and Tampa, Fla? |
Travel Info What are some good things to see between St. Louis and Tampa, Fla? Travel Tips I have made the drive between STL and Orlando plenty of times, since the route is about the same here is what I can suggest. There isn't much on the highway in a lot of spots. I figure you will go on 64 to 57 to 24 to 75...... and maybe touch 4 in Florida.... There isn't much on 64 between STL and Mt. Vernon, Illinois, where you pick up 57. Same goes for the stretch between 57 and 24..... and there is next to nothing on 24 until you get into Paducah, Kentucky. So if you are low on gas when you reach Marion, Illinois I HIGHLY suggest you stop for some. Paducah has a fairly nice shopping mall, but if you are from STL you will find it boring and I suggest passing it up. The "Welcome" rest stop when you get into Kentucky is kind of neat since it's made from a historic home..... and by the way, I suggest you stop at all "Welcome" rest stops when you enter any state. They can give you free maps, weather info, highway construction info, and sometimes have someone on staff there to answer questions. 24 will take you through Nashville, TN (You are about 2 hrs away when you hit Paducah.). You will pass the Tennessee Titans football stadium. Maybe you can take in a game if you plan it right. You can also see the Grand Ole Opry which I hear is absolutely beautiful (never been there). Somewhere south of Nashville is the Jack Daniel's distillary. My parent's took the tour. Funny thing is since it's in a dry county you can't drink any on the tour.... You will follow 24 all the way to Chattanooga, TN. You can stop at Lookout Mountain there. It's absolutely beautiful. They say you can see something like 6 or 7 states from the top. They also have a lot of fireworks stores around here, but again, if you are a Missouri native you will find this boring. At Chattanooga you will merge on to 75 and take that into Georgia. Stop at the "Welcome" rest stop there. It's HUGE. The people that work there can give you a lot of tips on where to stop.... and Atlanta traffic (which is a nightmare!). Atlanta has a lot of neat things to see... the coke factory, all the places downtown, CNN, etc. Then you drive through central and southern Georgia, BORING. All there is there is rest stops, hotels, food, gas, and porn (at the adult stores)..... There is some small theme park in Valdosta, GA, but I bet it isn't worth your time..... Northern Flordia is more of the same. BORING. Jacksonville is pretty big, but I never really stopped there enough to pay attention. Just burn rubber down to Tampa..... and I-4 runs directly between Tampa and Orlando (about an hour drive), so there is a lot to do down there.... Hope my many travels between STL and Orlando help you.... Laura Others memphis, little rock, depends what roads your taking In Chattanooga, be sure to see Rock City and Ruby Falls. Also, the historic Chattanooga Choo Choo is part of a Holiday Inn complex, and you can actually stay the night in a train car, which is a lot of fun. Graceland. If Elvis is the king, why is he buried in the back yard like a hamster? The Stephen Foster State Folk Culture Center in Hamilton County, Florida. Also, stop at the Georgia Agrirama, a living history museum that is right off I-75 in Tifton, GA I would Suggest Going To lamberts Cafe in Sikeston, MO. It would work out well as it is half way between St. Louis, and Memphis on the Major Interstate. Best Regards And Good travels. http://www.throwedrolls.com/ Ruby falls cavern in Chattanooga TN it is a very nice cave and has a good resturaunt. |
