Which areas in St. Louis Mo are the safest to stay. Westport, near St. Charles, Downtown? |
Travel Info We are staying from a Thursday through Sunday for a get away for our wedding anniversary. No kids. We will take in some sights. Travel Tips Safety should not be a concern in any of those. The "bad" areas that have been getting publicity are not places tourists go. Rather, think about what you want to be near. Those choices are spread out over a very wide geographic area--three counties. Personally I recommend the Hyatt Regency at Union Station, specifically the historic section of the hotel. That's where I got married, and it's beautiful. The hotel is in the old train station, and the train area has been made into a small mall, so there is shopping and restaurants attached to the hotel. http://stlouis.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/in... http://www.stlouisunionstation.com/... (BTW, Westport would be my last choice--there's nothing of interest there but business parks, and it's convenient to nothing). Others I'd say St. Charles is safer than downtown St. Louis to be sure and it's also a pretty and historic city. Do get to downdown St. Louis during the day one day though to look around the sites and have lunch there... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/saint_charl... http://wikitravel.org/en/st._louis... I second EQ, all three areas have equal amounts of threat. Its not like there is big brick wall that keeps the "bad guys" to one area. Just live in the fact that there are a couple million people in the the move freely. Now, where you want to stay is relative to what you want to see. If you want to do the touristy stuff then stay downtown. I would almost recommend staying at the Casino Queen hotel (book a riverside room). It may "set the mood" a little more. My suggestion would be to stay in Westport (because it's in the middle) but make sure to visit all three cities. Each has it's own special sights. There are things in downtown St. Louis such as the arch, city museum, etc. that are fun to visit. Westport has numerous places like various bars & restaurants. (A bf took me down there for valentine's day one year...I had fun). St. Charles along the riverfront is very nice. There many quaint little shops & some restaurants along historic Main Street & 2nd Street. I've been to all 3 places but live closer to St. Charles. I love going down there.....especially in August for the huge Festival of the Little Hills! Enjoy your stay!! :-D Chicago! no where in St. Louis is safe it is the most dangerous city in America I can recommend the Chase Park Plaza http://www.chaseparkplaza.com in the Central West End. Overlooking Forest Park http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/park... and just minutes from Clayton, University City and downtown it can't get much better. And about safety - it's more about using common sense and I think that counts for any City/location. I came here from Germany, lived in different parts of this city with my latest address being a downtown loft and watching the development over the past years I think St. Louis has quiet a bit to offer.
