I am considering a new job based in St. Louis, Please recommend area's to live for a family with 45 min. metro

Travel Info
Any help with where to live in the St. Louis area would be great. I can live as far as 45-50 minutes from metro. Schools, saftey and job growth are what we are looking for. Also affordble housing.

Travel Tips
Southern Illionis its about 20 mins from downtown STL. Property is cheap up there and it is a really nice area. Try Edwardsville, Troy, and Collinsville to name a few.

We just bought a home in Troy and love it up there.

We made a mistake of moving to an apartment in Arnold, MO when we first moved her in August.

South County is nice, but to expensive. We liked Kirkwood the best, but too much $ for what you get.

Others
St. Charles County is a great area, Southwest St. Louis County (Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Shrewsbury) are all pretty nice, but a bit pricey... communities, South City has some really nice neighborhoods.
I'm also relocating to St. Louis with a large family. I would agree with the first answer as far as my research goes. St. Charles County and the Webster Groves, Kirkwood, Ballwin, Chesterfield areas seem really nice.
Check the school "district" websites.
I grew up in South St. Louis County (Mehlville) and Mehlville and Oakville are good areas south. Southwest and West counties are good as well (Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Manchester).
I live in Southwest St. Louis City now (Southhampton neighborhood) and Southhampton and St. Louis Hills are the nicest parts of the city...and only a few minutes from the other areas I mentioned. As far as schools, South, Southwest and West counties seem to be the highest rated areas.
West county is Expensive i.e. Ladue, Clayton and St. Charles. you might consider living in Metro IL i.e Alton "the most haunted little town in America" but with all those ghosts it makes it the most inexpensive housing in the country.
I'd recommend Manchester/Ballwin/Kirkwood. Lots of new construction, Top rated Parkway or Kirkwood School districts, lots of shopping and churches, 10 minutes from Chesterfield valley, 20 minutes to downtown, reasonable property values, and practically zero crime.
