Travel Tips
I can't say that I have done the whole trail but, I have done several parts of it. I used to live in St. Charles and we would go from there to Defience and Augusta (wine country). It is a really nice trail well done, I do not bike much and I did just fine. It took us about 5 hours (again we were not pros). There is a lot to do on and off the trail and several towns now cater to the bike riders. You will have no problem finding places for food, water, ect. I would not go in Aug since that is the hottest month we went in May which was good still cool. Weekends of course are more busy then weekdays, still it is a very long trail, and never really seems that crowded. If you contact the St. Charles Visitor center they can give you more info on the trail and the conditions. You might also want to check with them because they have some very big festivals in St. Charles right on the trail at the riverfront park. This could be good if you are into or bad if you are trying to ride the trail. Here are some websites that might help you.....

There are also several B&B's along the way most are at a pretty good price and they have places for your bikes ect... I think you all would enjoy the trip, the senery is great, you see a lot of wildlife, and again it is very well taken care of and easy to ride. I hope this helped you sorry I couldn't answer the training part....or the supplies, I hope everything else helps! Have a wonderful trip and welcome to the Show Me State!

I've biked most of it in sections, never in one shot.
It's, like 120 miles total--pretty long for a day trip.
Fortunately, it's not designed for it, unless you're really hardcore and just want to say you've done it, but didn't get to see it.
You want to go now, not in the summer--that hardpack gets dusty and hot.
It'd take a seasoned rider several months of up to 50 mile+ rides before you're ready to ride a century (100 miles).
You want to carry as much stuff for yourself and your bike as you can--food, water, energy bars/drinks, extra tubes, tube repair kit, a cell phone, a first aid kit, etc.
I think Touring Cyclist's web site can give more supply details.
It's not for the faint of heart--have someone with a pickup truck or van available to haul you out if you were to get hurt or break the bike.
Good Luck.
Nope
I've done two ten mile sections of it both ways. They were from Clinton to Calhoun... not really memorable at all, and from Franklin to Rocheport, which was absolutely amazing in parts. It was very scenic when you got near to Rocheport. I'd reccommend that you go in May, or else the bugs'll start biting.
