Missouri Must See's? |
Travel Info I will be visiting St. Louis Missouri in a few weeks and am curious what the 'must see's' in the area are. Thanks! Travel Tips Not many people know that St. Louis has some of the best Italian dining in the world. There is a section of town called "The Hill," it used to be called Dago Hill, that is loaded with GREAT Italian restaurants. My personal favorite is House of Cunetto's. Don't miss this feature of St. Louis. Another personal favorite of mine that you won't see on other answerers lists is the "U City Loop." It is actually University City. Nelly (the rap star) is from there. It has the St. Louis Walk of Fame, (like the Holllywood one, except for St. Louis people), Fitz' Root Beer is made there, also. The best used record (or CD) store is there as well as some great restaurants. The general area is just cool, interesting area It is located on Delmar Blvd. just West of Forest Park and East of I170. For night life check out "The Landing." That area is on the riverfront just upriver from the Arch. Others Busch Brewery tour, go up in the Arch, Visit U-City Loop, Central West End, Eat at 1111 Mississippi in Soulard District, Get a copy of the River Front Times for a comprehensive guide of things to do. Visit: www.explorestlouis.com Definitely the Arch. It's amazing! Forest Park should be on the list--it has the zoo, history museum, art museum, and science center, which are all free. http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/park... http://www.mohistory.org http://www.stlzoo.org/ http://www.slsc.org/ http://www.stlouis.art.museum/ The art museum is a great place to go for Sunday brunch. http://www.stlouis.art.museum/index.aspx... The botanical gardens are nice http://www.mobot.org If you're going with kids, the City Museum and Grant's Farm are great choices. And the Museum of Transport is fun for kids, although a bit small. http://www.citymuseum.org http://www.grantsfarm.com http://www.museumoftransport.org/... You need to go to a Cardinals' game at Busch Stadium and then go to Ted Drew's afterwards for a frozen custard. You'll be just like a local. Done it before Visiting the Gateway Arch? Lines for the tram to the observation area on top are shortest right after the monument opens at 8:30 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. You also can buy tram tickets early in the morning for specific times later in the day or in advance on line at www.gatewayarch.com. Don't miss the ecological attractions: the Climatron at the Missouri Botanical Garden which houses a re-created rain forest; the expanded Saint Louis Science Center where 20th century scientific values are discussed; the Living World at the St. Louis Zoo where lessons on man's relationship to the animal world are served up with hands-on, interactive exhibits; and the Butterfly House & Education Center where you can walk through a crystal palace filled with more than 60 species of live butterflies in free flight and view exhibits about the beautiful insects role in the eco-system. Four painless ways to find out what you can do to help the environment. After the Cardinals game or after an evening of musical theater at The Muny, real St. Louisans are lined up by the dozens at Ted Drewes frozen custard for another summer tradition -- something called a "concrete." Located at 6726 Chippewa (old Route 66) about ten minutes south of Forest Park, Ted Drewes blends his custard with fruits, candies, nuts and flavorings to form milkshake-like concoctions so thick they're handed to customers upside-down. Try the Frisco made with frozen fruit salad or the Abaco-Mocha with coffee and chocolate. Speaking of food...St. Louis is the home of an addictive little appetizer called toasted ravioli. The meat filled ravioli are rolled in breadcrumbs, deep fried and served with meat sauce. Don't leave without trying a few. If you're looking for live entertainment, pick up a copy of the Riverfront Times. Distributed free in restaurants and office buildings throughout the city, the alternative tabloid prints a comprehensive listing of blues, jazz, rock, reggae and more. On Thursdays, the Post-Dispatch鈥檚 鈥淕et Out鈥?section also lists activities and events taking place in St. Louis. Foodies should grab a free 鈥淪auce Magazine鈥?that serves up tasty tidbits about Gateway City鈥檚 incredible restaurants, wineries, pubs and specialty foods. =) |
