How bad is driving around St. Louis? |
Travel Info I have to fly out of St. Louis in a couple of months on a Tuesday morning. I'm not used to driving in big cities. I live a couple of hours south of St. Louis and will have to drive on I-55, I-270, and I-70 to get to the airport. I plan to arrive at the airport around 5:30 a.m. Will traffic be too bad around that time. Also when I return, I will be landing in St. Louis about 7:30 in the evening. I figure the traffic on my way home will be a little hectic. I've driven to Nashville around 4 in the morning before and it wasn't too bad but it was bad enough. Travel Tips The times that you'll be driving around here, the traffic will be just fine. I'm sure it'll be a lot heavier than what you're used to in your hometown, but it definitely won't be rush hour-like. No worries. Others driving around is not so bad driving through it is another story !! Some people will say its not bad because some people don't freak out in traffic....I on the other hand hate driving in big towns. I've driven in St. Louis. The main thing is to really scope out where you're going so you'll be in the correct lane. The 5:30 drive probably won't be that bad but the evening might be a little hairy. Just watch for those idiots that don't use a turn signal and just cut you off. Stay with the traffic. I think both times you're planning to drive the traffic will be a lot better than say around 2 in the afternoon or so. You should be just fine. Believe me...if I can do it anybody can! Good luck and have a nice trip! You should have absolutely no problems at either of those driving times. I live about 40 miles southeast of the city and I work downtown. 5:30 am is not bad at all, I dont think the traffic gets bad until arouond 7 am or so, so you should have time to get through before the rush. But 7:30 pm will be bad. I'd hang out at the airport for awhile, maybe till 9 or so. St. Louis traffic is going to get really bad fast. They are doing a 12 mile makeover to I-64 and that means they will be shutting down parts of that highway. This means more people trying to find alternative ways to work and more people on I-70 coming from St. Charles and St. Louis Counties. I think you'll be O.K. however if you have the opportunity to use metrolink to get to where you are going take it because it will get you there a lot quicker. I put MoDot's link below so you can see if there are any problems with where you are going. By the way I-55 is having some work done because a concrete chunk fell off an overpass a couple of months ago. http://www.modot.mo.gov/stlouis/index.ht... |
