Is Saint Louis, MO dangerous?

Hello everyone...

I am from Indianapolis, IN and I want to transfer to saint louis university.... my problem is some of my friends told me that the city is the top of american dangerous cities .. !!!

Is that real???

I have lived in St Louis City all of my life. I'm not going to act like there isn't crime, but if you are careful you should be fine. The area around SLU is really hit or miss, but most of south and mid city is also block to block. North city is pretty sad and blighted, but I used to teach up in North city and parked my car on the street everyday and never had a problem. There are a lot of very nice families that raise their children in the city, but you know people in the suburbs act like we are all criminals. Because of that stereotype and alot of poverty most decent shopping centers are in the suburbs. However, there are many fine eateries and fun places to go in the city.

SLU is an excellent school, and as long as you don't do anything stupid, like walk around at midnight or park your lexus on MLK, you'll be fine.

no, no, no. Stl North County is a great place to raise a family or live by yourself. If you come, live in florissant. It is a short drive to SLU. Just stay away from East St. Louis if you head over here.

St. Louis is not too bad but if you venture across the river into East St. Louis......well, good luck.

Yes, it is true that St.Louis was named the most dangerous city in the US last year, but that only includes the city proper, and not the surrounding suburbs, where the majority of St.Louis residents live.

The area around SLU is mixed...big multi-million dollar mansions, but stray a few blocks outside of that, and...well...pretty blight.

Keep in mind that SLU has security, so you may want to contact them for stats on crime. Like any major city, just keeps your wits about you, don't invite criminals by walking around oblivious with your MP3 blaring in your ear, look alert, try to travel with a companion when you can, and you will be fine.
