The new route going through saint louis? |
Travel Info Does anyone know about the newer route that takes you around Saint Louis, instead of through it on the bridge when crossing from Illinois into Saint Louis. Does it really save time and aggravations, or is it the same thing as just going over the river? Travel Tips It depends where you are going from there. If you are coming in on I70 or I55 and want to continue on I70 west, I would pick up or stay on I70 at Troy and avoid it altogether. If you plan on taking I55 or I44 out of St. Louis, then get on I255 and cross the Mississippi at Columbia Illinois. Try to avoid the Bernard E. Dickman aka Poplar Street Bridge (the downtown bridge) at all costs. My family not so lovingly calls it malfunction junction due to traffic crossing lanes with each other in only the space of that river. Just picture an X of fast moving traffic. You will either go far left to far right or far right to far left, likely. And anything in between gets squashed like a bug. I wouldn't want my last moments on earth spent on that lousy piece of architecture. The only thing worse are the exit ramps off I-40 onto anything west. Like a whip! Others Highway 255. I like that way. Yes, it's great! When coming from IL on 55/70 just use 255 to 370, signs read St. Charles county, that bypasses all of metro St. Louis and is even faster than 270. You will end up back on 70 west well beyond the traffic! Just take 255, which becomes 270, to 44. Take 44 to Eureka. Simple enough. Umm, if you're coming from Illinois you have no choice but to cross the river on a bridge. There's no way around that. If you go down all the way 255, you're going to add 20 miles to your trip for no reason becuase you're still crossing a bridge. Take Interstate 64 West to 55 South and within 2 miles you will come to the Interstate 44 exit on the right. Why dont you just go to Yahoo maps and find your route, it will make things alot easier for you... |
