Is the Econo Lodge Riverfront in St. Louis MO a safe spot?

Travel Info
I am travelling cross country and found a hotel in St Louis called the Econo Londge Riverfront in St Louis. But, bc of the inexpensive price I thought it might be dirty or in a bad neighborhood. The address is 1100 North 3rd Street. If it is a bad place, can you recommend another place? I am going ot the Gatewary Art Riverfront at 707 N. 1st street in the evening for dinner and leaving early in the morning so I don't need anything fancy! Also is the riverboat close to the hotel? JUST SAFE!!!

Travel Tips
Don't stay there. Pony up the dough and stay in one of the downtown hotels (Drury, Rennissance, Westin, Adam's Mark, etc). I drive by that place everyday. I would not stay in that hotel. I did not stay there when I chose to stay the night after an event this winter.
Others
It's just north of downtown... It's in an area that's just beginning to get shady. I wouldn't want to stay there, but that's just me. I would either stay in St. Charles (25 minutes west of downtown) or Collinsville, Illinois (15 minutes east of downtown) or South County (20 minutes south of downtown). That Econo Lodge just seems a little too shady for my taste.

If you do stay in St. Charles, there's Ameristar Casino on the St. Charles riverfront and Harrahs just across the river from Ameristar. St. Charles is probably your best bet for cheap accommodations and close to a casino.
There is a Red Roof Inn, and a Holiday Inn off of I44 and Hampton that is only 5 min from the Riverfront. I have seen the place you're talking about, they have a tall iron fence around it that sets off red flags to me, I have never heard of anything bad that happened there, but your car could wander off while you sleep.
That place is a dump, just east of the football stadium. It's view choices are underneath I-70 and the "Dirty" part of the river just north of Laclede's Landing. Add on top of that all the construction going around right across the street (the are building a huge Casino/Hotel/Parking lot right there).

If you get a room there, prepare to get late night knocks from tricks looking for "Leroy", and possibly a gunshot or two. Trust me, spend the extra $$ and pick a place downtown on 4th street, Market, or Washington. And don't drive all the way to St. Charles, it isn't much better especially near the Ameristar (in price or safety, and it puts you 25 miles out of the city).
Go to the Hilton Downtown or Adams Mark. The overpass next to Econolodge is a Homeless hangout.
