Visiting St Louis, Staying at Omni Majestic on Pine St, should we rent a car or is Metro good enough?.? |
Travel Info First time to St. Louis with girlfriend and would like to see all the good stuff (Arch, Annheiser Brewery, Cathedral, Union Station, etc.) Do we need a rental or can we walk and take Metro everywhere. Is Metro safe? Thanks Travel Tips No way... don't rent a car. I live here and I wouldn't drive. It would cost you more to park than the rental would cost. Your hotel will probably charge you nightly, Union Station costs a lot to park, and so do a lot of other places. You are only a couple blocks from the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, which has the Arch and the Cathedral. You'd take the southbound Broadway bus straight down to the Brewery (free beer, woohoo!), and hop on the MetroLink at 8th and Pine or Laclede Station to check out Union Station, the Delmar loop, etc. Everything you mentioned is free, too. You could check out the Zoo, Science Center, Art Museum, and History Museum, too (all free). Just take the Forest Park metrolink stop and they're all around the park. When you want to go exploring, stop at the Metrolink station and pick up their all-day pass. It's $4.50 and you can ride the bus and metrolink as much as you want. Tickets can be purchased online, too. Have a great time, and I hope you enjoy St. Louis! Source(s): http://www.metrostlouis.org/ http://www.slfp.com/cityscapes.html... Other Travel Tips arch and union station are close, but take a bus or taxi...st louis is a confusing town the metra can get you around to certain places, check the map. you will cab it to the brewery, or "The Hill" you can find lots of stuff around the down town. Yes its safe Metro can take you anywhere... There's no need for a car. Your hotel is located only a couple blocks from a MetroLink station. That will take you to the arch, and Union Station, and the MetroBus will take you anywhere the train doesn't. Just look at Metro's website to plan your trip. http://www.metrostlouis.org/ The metro isn't bad... just don't get off anywhere east of the river (East St. Louis/past Laclede's landing exit) or past Delmar to the Airport (especially Welston, Rock road or Hanley) Parking is pretty cheap in STL compared to other cities like Chicago, so renting a car might be the way to go. Just make sure you get a good map and directions from the rental copmany. St. Louis streets often change names frequently. |
