What are some great ideas of things to do in the St. Louis area? |
Travel Info My friend and I are both in our mid 20's and heading to St. Louis from 7/4-7/8. We are looking to destress and have a good time without too much hassle. When were looking for some creative ideas on what to do for those 4 days. We have never been in the area before so we will hit a few of the tourist attractions but don't want to devote all of of time to them. Any suggestions of what attractions are really worth checking out and what hidden gems the city have to offer would be really appriciated. Travel Tips Check out the Venice Cafe. It is 2 blocks from the AB brewery, so you can go there first and guzzle a couple free beers, then go to the Venice and trip out. Others There is a lot to do in this city and the metro area, and it would take forever to list them all, so check out this link, and it will get you started on finding yourself some fun things to do. http://www.explorestlouis.com/ Here is another link for the Riverfront Times weekly newspaper (you can get the free RFT paper copy of this all over) that has places to eat, drink, see live bands...ect http://www.rftstl.com/ Here are some links to some outdoor activities. http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/park... http://www.stlouisco.com/parks/... http://www.mostateparks.com/ Since you will be here on the fourth of July you may want to check this link out http://celebratestlouis.org/site/... But I must warn You that the Gateway Arch, and the Arch grounds will be crowded so if you want to get a birdseye veiw of the city from the Arch, go early in the AM when they first open, unless you dont mind the crowd, and you want to watch the sun go down, and see the lights come on which is a spectacular sight. Enjoy Your stay. You'd probably find these on one of the sites already listed in the last answer, but since they sound so cool I thought I'd point them out for you ... Cyndi Lauper is playing for free at LIVE on the Levy on July 4th. The City Museum opens up the bar and a 'playground' for adults on Fridays and it's supposed to be really fun (so I've heard from other in their mid-20s). I've never actually gone to the City Museum and all I've written is what I've gathered by word of mouth (from several people that have never met). I looked at the City Museum website (link below) a little bit and couldn't find anything specific to adults. Maybe you could look closer and find something? I've been to a few concerts at the Pageant in St. Louis (on Delmar). I like it because it's not too crowded and it's not far from the metroLink so I don't have to drive there. You can see who's playing by googling "the Pageant St. Louis". I last saw KT Tunstall there and it was awesome. The second link is on the celebratestlouis.org site from above (last answer given) but it links directly to the activities and artists playing schedule for LIVE on the Levy. There is also a haunted house (I don't know the name of it and I've never been but it sounded cool - if you're into that sort of thing). It's like a hotel - it has four rooms and you can rent one or more for a night or more - and has guided psychic tours. I know that one or more people shot themselves in the head there. The person who stayed there (twice!) reported some supernatural happenings - unless the owners paid someone to hide out in the attic and make scuffling noises - possible, yes, but I don't know... http://www.citymuseum.org/home.asp... http://celebratestlouis.org/site/index.p... You should hit the zoo in Forest Park and probably the arch, except it will be crowded while u are here. The city musem is also neat and the Old Cathedral. Take in a baseball game if you can. St. Louis has a lot of great places to eat. If you like Italian food check out the Hill. Take a look at LaFayette Square for unigue houses bars and resturants. Soulard is agreat place to grab some spicier foods. Take a tour of the budweiser brewery. There is also always six flags. There are a ton of things to do in the lou. Check out some web sites for extra help or ask the hotel in which u stay! Have fun! The Loop in University City is always a fun place to hang out and get all kinds of ethnic food. There's the arch, the zoo, the Science Center, a magic house, a butterfly place, you can ride the Metro Link, lots of shopping (for any budget!), fine dining and cheaper food as well. I recommend India Palace by the airport. Fine and unique food at surprisingly good prices considering. (Lunch buffet is even a better deal!) Website can be found by looking for India Palace near St. Louis Airport. Also the Old Spaghetti Factory down town by the arch is very reasonable and kind of fun. There are cruises on the Mississippi and carriage rides by the arch as well. Motels in the area have coupon books in them. Always look for the place you're going to first, because it's usually in there! Have fun! |
