Thinking About Relocating to St. Louis This Year? |
Travel Info Any tips on the good neighborhoods and the bad neighborhoods to stay away from? I want to look for a house in the nicer middle class area that is safe and clean. Can someone familiar with the area tell me what some places are? Thanks. Thanks. Travel Tips I would stay away from North STL, South STL east of Grand and East STL (Illinois). Otherwise, any other neighborhood is fine and there is a lot choose from depending upon your tastes. If you're looking for a really urban area, then you'll like Lafayette Square, The Hill or the Central West End. If you're looking for something more family-oriented (nice yards with lightly trafficked streets) then check out the Tower Grove neighborhoods, Dogtown, St. Louis Hills and South Hampton. If you're looking for something more suburban, then look at University City, Maplewood, Clayton, Webster Groves, Olivette, Creve Coeur, Ferguson & Florissant. If you'd prefer to be farther away from the big city, try Fenton, Eureka, Ballwin, St. Charles, St. Peters and Chesterfield in MO; Collinsville, Belleville, O'Fallon or Edwardsville in IL. Others Move to Camden, NJ. It's much better :D If you wany to live in the city try the LaFayette Square area. Outside the city try west and south county or get properties a little cheaper in Jefferson County, MO. Fenton and Arnold are in Jefferson county, but minutes from the city. Try to stay away from the north side of st. louis as it tends to have some of the worse neighborhoods. I think South city is the best. Specifically south hampton area or st. louis hills neighborhood. Great location. It's not exactly big city living but everything is near by and just 10 minutes away from downtown. I would describe it as safe and clean. The hill is a great neighborhood, known for it's italian population. South grand near carondelet has some nice homes. Webster is just outside the southwest part of the city and is also a great place. St. Louis is in the top few most dangerous cities! Unfortunately it is my birthplace and I have many ties that keep me going back. (and I do love it!) Good luck, and that is smart of you checking it out first... my momma used to tell me a lot of horror stories! (Please forgive me, but I cannot remember the locations of those.) I from tha urban part of st.louis,mo it was recently it was rated tha usa most dangerous city belive me I'm from thurr think about it before you go thurr I live in tha southeastern usa now dow. Look at St. Louis County or the other surrounding counties (south, north, west, St. Charles). When looking in St. Louis County it would be best to stay closer to the 270 loop. Also, the metro east offers a great alternative. The Belleville, Fairview, and O'fallon areas offer easy access to downtown and all that the area has to offer. Your home prices are relatively lower and you do not pay a personal property tax on your vehicle. Also, ignore these "most dangerous city" fear-mongers. Its a weighted statistic. It uses a per capita rating. Just like every major metropolitan, there are areas to avoid. However, most areas are safe. |
