Travel Tips
Saint Louis is GREAT! It isn't huge but, since it used to be one of the biggest cities in the US, it has a lot of big city attractions. The city is experiencing a renaissance as well. Many historic neighborhoods, with beautiful old world brickwork and architecture, are very affordable here. If you have school aged children, I would recommend enrolling them into one of the magnet schools in the city or attending a private school, as the regular schools in the district are suffering. I would recommend staying out of the outer suburbs, as they are too far from the exciting things going on here in the city, as well as being cookie cutter plastic boxes and big-box retail outlets. Some of the inner suburbs have excellent school districts and rich histories. You will really like it here! Hope this helps. Source(s): realtor, high school teacher in the city, resident
Other Travel Tips
I don't know much about St. Louis...maybe you should visit the city and get to know it a little bit.
I was born and raised in St.Louis but i wouldn't recommend moving there. There is nothing there and the school systems suck. I joined the army just to get away from there. The crime is very bad and there is construction all over the highways. I now live in Georgia. I would recommend moving to the Atlanta are, the schools are great and there is always something to do. For you as well as the kids. It's never to hot or too cold. It may rain quite a bit but everything else makes up for the weather. It's a big city so move to the outskirts. The people show so much southern hospitality. The cost of living is reasonable also. If you need more info about Atlanta, go to www.ajc.com. It should be very helpful.
Are you moving into the City or the surrounding area? I live near St. Louis. If you are moving into the City it is important what part of the city you are moving to. Soulard (I always have fun there, good bars and restaurants) is one of the nicer areas and south St. Louis seems to be safer also. The areas that are higher in crime are North and East St. Louis (E. STL is across the river in IL) I would STRONGLY recommend a suburb. Any of Saint Louis County is better than the city. West or South county are very nice areas. Depending on how far west of St. Louis you are wanting to go Fenton is about 20 miles from the City and Eureka is about 30 miles from the city and are both nice areas. Eureka has Six Flags so thats good for the family. Ladue is a very wealthy neighborhood. Thats really all I can think of.

Here is a very helpful website. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I live in a residential loft in downtown st.louis and I love it. I moved here from texas and I like it so much better here. The place is renovating the city everywhere right now and it is great to see the city movng forward and gaining population steadily. I haven't seen anymore crime here than I saw in texas but I guess I haven't really been to the so called "bad places," but they are easy to avoid. I hope you like it here bc I do.

Good Luck.
I live in St. Charles, it's about 25 minutes west of downtown on I-70. I grew up there and it's a great place to live. Schools are great, people are great. Anything and everything you need is in St. Charles.

Stay away from East St. Louis, IL, North St. Louis and some parts of North St. Louis County. Your nicest places are St. Charles County, West St. Louis County and South St. Louis County. Any places past those are just too far out. Or if you want to live in the city, go wtih South City.
