Being offered a job in Sydney for 80,000 to 85,000 (AUS Dollars) a year. Is this enough to live on???

Travel Info
Hey all, I live in Texas, USA right now and am thinking about moving to Sydney. I hear it is expensive, how would I do on 80 to 85 thousand a year?? Thanks in advance! I am 30 and would be living alone.

Travel Tips
G'Day from Sydney,
First of all, unless insanity runs in Your family, which part of the offer are You thinking about? Yes You can live rather well on $80,000.oo to $85,000.oo per year. The main factors are accommodation and lifestyle expenses. 30 is a great age to be out partying in Sydney. (I assume that You have been known to take the occasional drink). Do Yourself a big favor before You get here:

1) Get on the Internet and check out rental prices. Just punch in "Rental Accommodation in Sydney" and go for it.

2) Make sure that Your International Driver's License is up to date. We drive on the other side of the road. Can be tricky to the uninitiated.

3) Familiarize Yourself with the Sydney Metropolitan Area (It is bigger than Rhode Island). Sydney is not just the Central Business District. It extends inland some 60 miles in all directions.

4) Confirm Your banking arrangements. The Aus$ to US$ rate of exchange is in Your by approximately 20%. You will need credit references and documentation, etc. if You choose to rent a flat.

5) Go to the following sites for additional information.

Transport: www.cityrail.nsw.gov.au

Activities: www.sydneyweekender.com.au

Real Estate: www.ljhooher.com.au

That should give You a good heads up on Sydney. Cheers! Source(s): I live here. I'm a local and I would not live anywhere else.
Other Travel Tips
First of all congratulations. Sydney is a beautiful city and if you like the beach....you'll find it is gorgeous and easy to get to.
My sister moved to Bondi Beach (1 hr out of Sydney) when she graduated college and now 20 years later she's still there...married, working and kids. I've visited and can speak of what I saw. It's so nice, similar to the US but people are friendlier. You can live on that without any problem.
Take the job, you'd be crazy not to.
You'll do fine here on that money.
Best way to see the world is to be paid good money to do it.
**** yeah. thats enough $$$ to live on and in Sydney

you would be silly not to take the offer
Gee if you dont want the job, then can i have it??

$80k a year is a fantastic wage, and you will be able to afford to live inner city with that kind of money.

Congratulations.

Friends of mine have just moved back to Texas from Oz and had a blast while they were here.
Since you don't have any one else to support it's a very comfortable wage to be on! Rent is probobly the most expensive and if you want to invest in property thats expensive to but on your salary and being single you should be able to live on half your wage and save the rest. Fantastic.
