What about living in (Sydney) in Australia ? |
Travel Info I'm from Middle east (Jordan). I'm looking to live in Australia, I want your help in getting the information about cost of living in australia. Is it cheap or expensive ? Travel Tips Well, you don't say how well off you are, and I don't know what the standard of living is in Jordan, but for us Australians Sydney is the most expensive city to live in. However, it is also the biggest with the most opportunities for jobs. Property can be expensive and like most cities food and accomodation can be costly, but wages are reasonable and making a living is not too difficult if you are a hard working person and have a regular job. Good luck! :-) Others Your question is rather vague so my answer would probably not help much. Anyway, cheap or expensive is relative. Australia is definitely cheaper than Europe or the US, but I can't say how it is comparedto Jordan. But if you come to live in Australia and get a professional job (e.g. doctor, lawyer, accountant, teacher, interior designer, restaurateur) you should be able to cover your family's living costs in Australia. Sydney is expensive for things like buying a house and if you have to commute to work...unless you have a good paying job. A website that compares most international city can be found at www.homefair.com. Sydney is a great city in which to live and has everything you would expect in a city of five million people. Those people have to live somewhere and the cheapest housing is on the outskirts of the city, up to 50km from the centre. Some areas are well served by public transport, others are not. Public transport is not expensive if you buy weekly or longer period tickets. Even if you buy daily tickets it is still cheaper than driving to the city and parking for the day. I suggest you look at the Sydney Morning Herald on a Saturday http://www.smh.com.au You will be able to get an idea of house prices in different areas and the cost of many different goods and services. In my opinion, the price of fresh food is much the same wherever you go in Australia and is remarkably cheap compared with some parts of the world try this website it will give you a greater detail and more accurate answer. www.realestate.com.au - perform a search on the capital cities which are Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Darwin, or national capital Canberra. sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world; rest of the country is moderate though not cheap.
