Does anyone know of a website where you can view and purchase historic photos of Sydney suburbs? |
Travel Info I have occassionaly seen these photos for sale at stalls in shopping centres and thought they had a website. I couldn't find it online though. Any ideas? Others Redgypsy has the info on the websites. [ she does look lovely } All I can suggest is that there is a massive collection at the Rocks markets on Suindays. They do an excellent job of framing as well. bin there 'n dunit. I would assume that the big Sydney newspapers like the Sun-Herald and Daily Telegraph would have lots of historical pictures that they use. They often show 2 separate pictures of a street corner that is well known - one from the 1900's and one from today. Yes I certainly do! http://www.historicphotographs.com.au/... It focusses on historic photographs of Australia and New Zealand. When you get there, enter "Sydney" or any suburb within Sydney which you want a photo of. I found out about it when the lady who sells the photographs had a temporary stall in the shopping centre right beside the shop where I work. I bought a great photo which shows the sandstone bridge that you can see from my house when trams were still running across it. The ONLY thing is, some of the photographs they sell aren't original, some of them are prints and photographs of other black and white or sepia photographs... But there are literally thousands of photos you can choose from, ranging from the 50s to the late 1800s. Like you I have a fascination with historic Sydney, they're great photos and I recommend you spend a bit of time there finding the perfect photo. Good luck. Hope this helps. |
