We are a couple (married) relocating to Sydney from NYC. Where's the best place to live? |
Travel Info We are active, have dogs, love to be at beach and outside in general. Prefer multi-cultural, positive surroundings with lots of diverse food. No kids yet but possible- so want to be near nice people, all types. We are casual,open/liberal/lefty-type... who love live music and outdoor markets. Any advice would be appreciated. Our income is mid-range to mid-upper range, but any suggestions or details are welcome! Thank you. Travel Tips Given your profile, I have a few suggestions for you to consider. Bondi = Great beach, trendy arty farty cafes, expensive real estate, Jewish influence, good for celebrity watching, . Newtown = Inner city bohemian atmosphere, large gay population, 5 min walk to Sydney uni, a little sleazy, artistic culture, great pubs, many Victorian terrace style homes. Balmain = My favorite, casual, expensive, village atmosphere, best pubs with bands, 5 Min's to CBD, half the suburb is enveloped by Sydney Harbour, little crime, multi cultrual but not over the top, Balmain has the lot. Feel free to e-mail me for further info. Others This is purely opinion. What you should do is when you get there just travel all over the city and see it for yourself. The best way to find the good stuff is to adventure. I have never been to Sydney, but i've been to over a dozen countries and each time I go to a new city or move to one I find that meeting people during an adventure will always point you in the right direction. From what you have said, I would suggest Melbourne. http://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au... I live in Australia! Beachside suburbs are expensive, as is all of Sydney, but not as diverse and multi-cultural as the Western suburbs. Given your description, I'd aim for Newtown, Balmain, Glebe, Annandale. Inner west is best. And avoid Melbourne, it's not for you |
