Is sydney a good place to live/study in? |
Travel Info i'm thinking of studying in sydney in the near future, but is it true that sydney has a considerably high crime rate and racial tension? Travel Tips Hi, Personally, I would not recommend people to go to Sydney, not because it is not a bad place, but it is just way too crowded. Cost of living is expensive, the people are generally 'cool and cold', and racial tensions have been aggravated lately. Racists comments should be ignored for they are exceptions, not the norm. Nevertheless, it is an ok city. The weather is not cold, racist comments should just be ignored, and never take it personally. If you like big metropolitan city lifestyle, then Sydney is ok. But have you considered Melbourne or Brisbane? Others It can't be no worse than Memphis "Good"? what is that? There is crime everywhere. Im guessing you are foreign, and probably oriental or Indian. Australians do say alot of racists things, but I learnt to deal with it by ignoring them. They are really very dumb and shallow. After all the are descended from cirminals that were sent to prison there from England No it is not true. The crime rate in Sydney is low as it is in most cities in Australia. There has recently been an election in NSW so we have heard much about law and order from the conservatives and their lickspittles like Alan Jones and John Laws but the fact is the crime rate is low and falling. Sydney is a great place to live with everything you would expect in a big city plus the harbour and the beaches. Sydney University, the University of NSW, the University of Technology and Macquarie University and excellent schools. There is also the University of Western Sydney but I have had no dealings with it so can't comment. In general, Australians are tolerant. There is racism here as there is anywhere but it is less than in many other countries. One problem is that our Prime Minister, Little Lying Johnnie, has been stirring up anti-Moslem sentiment with his anti-terrorist statements and the war in Iraq. There are many Howard supporters who think it is OK to vilify Moslems and particularly their women when they wear veils. It can be very unpleasant. These people are in a minority, fortunately, and when LLJ loses the election later this year, calmer heads will prevail and we should see a diminution of such bigotry. Sydney is not a city without problems, no city is, but it is still a great place to live and study. It's a nice place to live and study. Just make sure you are loaded with money as it is very expensive If you are an Indian or an Asian, please don't come. We already have too many, and NONE of them speak English. Detriment to this once fine city.. |
