Dont do Bondi. Way overpriced and full of yuppies.

Balmain is trendy and young, full of action. Nth Sydney is close yet far enough away to be another city of sydney.

I liked the Harbor Marriott, but really wanted to stay at the Lord Nelson Brewery & Pub - they have rooms on the top floor. It's in the Rocks & is a great place for a pie & ale, if you have a chance to visit. Try the Lord Nelson's Blood Ale - tasty stuff!
