I am going to Australia in 2007 for two weeks?

Travel Info
I would like to know where to start and how to make the best use of my time in those two weeks.
i want to see Sydney, Melbourne and Ayars Rock and Great Barrier Reef...When is the best time to go and the most inexpensive time for airfare.

I also, want to go to NZ for a week as well.

Travel Tips
Try and travel in either February or March as the airfares will be lower than January and the weather will still be great. If you are only going to spend 2 weeks in Oz then I would look at flying into Melbourne, then on to Sydney followed by Cairns (Great Barrier Reef) ending with Uluru (Ayers Rock) returning to either Brisbane or Sydney for your flight home.

I would probably go to NZ on the way out to Oz.

Happy holidays.

Others
Two weeks is not long to see all of those places. FYI, it is no longer called Ayers Rock but Uluru out of respect for our native people for whom it is a sacred site.

If I were you I would either visit for longer or only visit two of the places you mentioned. You could easily spend the whole two weeks in Sydney, Melbourne or the Great Barrier Reef and not see them all. As for Uluru, travelling there takes a long time. Once there you will want to spend a couple of days.

As for best time of year, that will depend. For Melbourne, best time might be Spring or Autumn, whereas for the Great Barrier Reef, the best time would be mid-year (June/July/August).

Airfares will vary according to where you are flying from. If you look at travel sites on the internet and put in a variety of dates, you will get a better idea of the cheapest time to fly, although keep in mind that the cheapest air fares are typically at times that the fewest people want to visit due to weather limitations.
Yes, February and March is low season. New Year and school holidays have ended in January and easter starts in April. The weather in Sydney and Melb is beautiful this time of year. It would very hot in Uluru and Gt Barrier Reef though!

It is probably too much to see/do in 2 weeks though.
