Is it safe for two oldies to book into a hotel for five days in the Kings Cross area of Sydney Aus? |
Travel Info Planning to be there in February 2007 Travel Tips G'day twacraws, Thank you for your question. I have stayed in the Kings Cross area with my Dad who is in his mid 70s and we haven't had any problems. You need to be careful where you go like in any city but it is safe enough especially in the day time. Regards Others yes , I wonder around there in the back streets and don't have any problems, lots of back packers and revelers,a few druggies the main is very safe, not much more to say really if they look like scum keep away from them people keep to tehm selves and everyone know each other and there arre lots f police its actually rated as one of the safest parts of sydo due to the high concentration of police.....but use your head and don't go wondering off in to dark lanes......... day time no problem, but a boring part of the city in my opinion. night time can be rowdy, and still boring. Safe, but the place is crowded and could be stinking hot in summer (stinking literally and figuatively). I would consider staying closer to the beach (not Bondi - too crowded). For five days you might get a good hotel rate here: www.wotif.com.au Kings Cross has really cleaned up it's act over the last decade. In the 70's & 80's it was quite dodgy, but there is a heavy police presence now, and it's become very cosmopolitan & cool to be there these days. Like in any big city, be on your guard, but personally, I have no problem walking around the streets at night in Kings Cross. Again, be on your guard tho. Have a great time, I love Sydney (am coming home in January!! Yippee!) It is a very tame area compared to the sinful streets of New York or Vancouver. Do watch for pickpockets. Don't take more out with you than you need to have. Enjoy the stay. |
