What's a great New Year's Eve spot to watch the fireworks in Sydney?

Travel Info
Somewhere that you get a good view of the show but not be completely surrounded by crowds of people.

Travel Tips
There are well over a million people gather around the harbour foreshores to watch the NYE fireworks. Forget about trying to find somewhere without crowds. It's pretty much standing room only everywhere! The action is all centred on the eastern side of the harbour bridge although everywhere both sides is just mobbed. If you still can maybe you can get yourself onto one of the many harbour cruise boats. Expensive but they of course limit the number of people and have a front row position. On land the most popular and best vantage point is Mrs Macquaries Chair which is the next point back from the Opera House by the Botanical Gardens although this is definitely the most crowded place. Another very good one that I heard of though is the Cahill Expressway which is the road that goes above Circular Quay. A great vantage point without too much crowd as in the past they've limited the numbers there too. I think last year one of the newspapers gave away tickets to get in there but I know other people who were allowed in anyway and they reckon it was fantastic.

Don't be too worried about the crowds, that's all a part of what NYE in Sydney or anywhere else is all about. But whatever you do- don't give up and decide to watch it on TV. This is the most spectacular and biggest firework display in the world every year and the TV coverage really somehow makes it look very ordinary. You have to see the real thing if only once in your life. Source(s): I'm a local tourguide.

Other Travel Tips
The Royal Botancial Gardens are a good place to go if you don't have tickets. The gates close at 3pm though so you would need to get there early for a good spot.
Two years ago I watched them from the north side of the bridge but as the fireworks started to go off we realised that we couldn't see all of them properly.

I would suggest somewhere east towards the entrance to the harbour so that you can take in the bridge and Opera House as well.

And remember to get there early to get a great spot.
Easy, jump on one of the ferries and you have the best view of all.
The intercontinental Hotel, Quest West Hotel, ANA Hotel - all these hotels face the Harbour Bridge. Alternatively on a private boat or on TV.
best is if u can go 3/4 hours b4 midnight...u can watch it from circular quay. otherwise ..the botanical garden, darling harbour, Vaucluse, and parts of North Sydney as well....but it is amazing :)))
