Something we should think about ... what if the recent scientific theory is true, and Australia has just come through an unusually wet 200/300 year cycle? What if the continent is actually returning to it's 'normal' dry as a bone state and we never knew it. We (arrogant whites) have only been in Oz for a little over 200 years. Do we really know what the ecological system really is?

When the water runs out, it will have to be brought in by tankers from somewhere .. who knows where .. or a pipeline will have to be built to get it from the Snowy. Until a solution is found, people will move away to a place where water is, and land prices will plummet. (An entire book could be written about what will happen!)

Because of global warming, in the future wars will be fought over water, not oil. But Sydney will run out of water long before it comes to that, because governments are way too slow to act in time to avoid any crisis. Even now, with Sydney drying up staring us in the face, everyone is more concerned with winning the Ashes than dying of thirst in a few years, more concerned with having lovely green lawns in summer and shiny, clean BMW's than in having water to drink. Lets just continue to live in denial until the dams are cracked mud in a deep valley. Then and only then will everyone wake up and smell the daisies.

There is going to be a world wide water shortage by 2012. It will hit Sydney before then.
when the drought breaks there will be mega floods ,and the dam will overflow,people too pessamistic,australia goes from food to drought with regular monotony.. if only we could ask the aboriginis there opinion on this
Sydney is a large city......... it is important to the function of most other towns/cities/industries....etc... so sydney will just take water from elsewhere................ or the politicians will keep truckin' it in to keep votes????!!!!
Yes if the drought doesn't stop, we could be out of water in just five years! I saw the news on Nine MSN in December last year.
