Sydney Northern Beaches suburbs - Which one? |
Travel Info Hi, We're moving over to Sydney next year, and are considering locating in the Northern Beaches, but I'm after some guidance on which particular suburb to choose. We're a young family in our 30's with a 5 and a 3 year old, so we want the mix of beach and a good town nearby, a good school, and transport links into Sydney CBD. Pricewise, we'd be after a 4 bedroom house priced between $700 and $1m, which I know won't get me beach-front, but I'm hoping to be within walking distance of the beach. Any advice on which areas might be better than others? Travel Tips Hi, I live have lived in the northern beaches for over 10 years now and like to keep an eye on the property market. Every Saturday in the Manly Daily there is a colour lift out real estate pages that you can also view in the internet. The site is listed below, you can click it the see a page a time. At the moment they are not printing the colour lift out because of the Christmas and holiday break. It might be in next Saturday鈥檚 paper so keep an eye out on the net. The paper has a good range of houses to look at in your price range. I am going to be honest with you; it鈥檚 going to be near impossible to get a 4 bedroom home that is within walking distance to the beach. If it really important to be in walking distance to the beach then to widen your changes you are better off looking for a three bedroom home with no views. By what you wrote you sound like you have visited the Northern Beaches. If you have you may have heard the suburb called Newport. If you are traveling to the city every day I recommend not going anymore north than Newport. If you are willing to give up the walking distance to the beach you will find lots of homes that will meet your needs. For example in today鈥檚 Manly Daily there is a small listing of houses for sale. One home is in Narrweena that is the just behind Dee Why and it has views 4 bed, 2 bath, 4 car, huge garage and storage. The suburbs I think you should look at that will have some homes within your price range are and are nice suburds to live in are: Harbord, Curl Curl, Narraweena, Narraweena, Cromer, Cromer heights Collaroy, Narrabeen, North Narrabeen, Warriewood, Elanora, Elanora heights Mona Vale and Newport. I don鈥檛 know where you are moving from, but if you are moving from Perth for example (that鈥檚 where I came from) and plan to send your 5 year old to school you may not be familiar with the way the year/grades are set up here. When I went t school in Perth I started school at the age 5 in grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 then finished in grade 7 then went onto high school, starting at year one to year five. Here in NSW the primary school is in 2 sections, you have Infants and Primary. In the infants section you start off in kindergarten then move onto kindergarten 1 and kindergarten 2. Then you go into Primary section called year 3, year 4, year 5 and year 6. Then you go to high school, continuing onto year 8, year 9, year 10, 11 and 12. Hope that makes sense! Because it can be confusing if you are use to a different set up. Hope you enjoy living here on the Northern Beaches as much as I do. Others I live in Manly, and I love it but to be honest it just gets so clogged up with tourists it hardly feels like home sometimes. The next suburb up - Harbord/Queenscliff is much nicer and you can still easily get to the ferry if you work in the city. Dee Why is also just beautiful and not so manic, but if you get much further away it is a big commute. If you're not commuting daily then prices get a bit easier as you go further north. So inconclusion I would say Queenscliff or Dee Why. (And come check out Bike Addiction on Pittwater Road!) Okay I lived at Manly and just moved to Narrabeen on the Northern beaches. Manly is great, lots of night life, 15 minute jet cat into the city and awesome beaches. However there is lots of traffic and lots of travellers. Its hard to be a local there. Any beach from there up to Newport is cheaper and more relaxed. I love Narrabeen i live across the road from the beach and i think the little community is awesome! The only place i would not recommend is Dee Why... |
