Accomodation for 4 months in Sydney (in September 2007)? |
Travel Info Hello, my partner and I will be in Sydney in 2007 and we are looking for a cost effective (ie, cheap) place, or at least type of accommodation that is preferably furnished and in the city. We will cook out own meals (we love to cook) so self-contained would be perfect. Does such a place exist? Or is it wishful thinking? Thanks! Travel Tips I would not recommend living in the CBD or in the middle of the city - very very few of us actually live there.Maybe international students from Asia??,but i don't know anyone that actually lives there. Most of us [urban professionals etc] live in "the eastern suburbs" 5 mins or less from the CBD,you can get a cheap studio to share for 200-250 AU pw to 300-500 au for 2 brdooms pw,but that assuming a longer lease,we rent by the week here but you pay fortnightly or monthly. I reccomend - Elizabeth Bay - [alot of hostels and guesthouses here too] very close [could even walk] to the city, the galleries, opera house, the harbour.A wonderul area alot of people living there. Paddington about 10 min or less by bus to the city centre.Very nice and villagey.I loved living there. Use domain.com.au they sometimes list short term accom. Bondi might also be good, cheaper and a mecca for travellers every kind of accom, and potts point - near elizabeth bay but cheaper. Source(s): Have lived in all the above places and elsewhere in Sydney all my life. Other Travel Tips I just travelled Australia for a year, and found it easiest to find places to live in Sydney. You try the classifieds from the Sydney Morning Herald or any other local newspaper, or even try the backpacker magazine called British Balls at www.britishballs.com. I found a place in the Central Business District living with 3 other people for 3 months. Since travellers are always coming and going from Sydney it shouldn't be too hard to find a place. One option you may want to consider is a housesitting agency..... some people go thru an agency, who screen people to live in their house (i believe anywhere from 3 12 mths). This way you pay no rent, and you get to live in a furnished house and just pay water, electricity, gas and living expenses. I believe its quite a process to go through to be apprpoved by the agency, but I think it would be a great way to go. Try doing a google search, as I cannot recall the name of the agency. Good luck. If you haven't gotten your tickets, a good place to get some real cheap is at http://www.hotwirevacation.com |
