Should I bring a webcam with me to Sydney? |
Travel Info I will be abroad next semester and want to keep in contact with people from home (United States) via webcam, however I have heard that there are bandwith limits and I don't know if it will work there. If there is a limit, how much would it cost to chat over webcam for, say, 10 minutes or so? Thanks a lot in advance. Travel Tips We are not THAT far behind the rest of the world!!! I have ADSL & run a webcam with live streaming video on my webpage with no problems with bandwidth. We also have broadband here, though it's not available in every house. I run mine 24 hours a day and I'm on a package for unlimited use for just over $100/Austr./month, but you won't need the same upload/download limits to just chat 10 minutes a day....don't worry, you'll be able to talk to your friends fine from here and be able to find a suitable isp package that is not too expensive!!!!! I'm with www.dodo.com.au Not the best isp as far as service goes, but one of the cheapest. Other Travel Tips I don't know anything about badwith limits but I use a webcam to talk to my long distant boyfriend. However, he's only in Santa Barbara and I'm in LA, so it's not international. I know that you can use AIM or MSN or any other messenging service. I think since it's only one semester, you don't really need to get at webcam. Just enjoy your time at Sydney and catch up later! ZERO. There may have been bandwidth limits 5 years ago, as was the case everywhere in the world, but that was 5 years ago. I use a webcam to speak to my family in the UK (I am in Australia). We all have broadband now, so you should be ok, some of the internet cafes over here have webcams attached too. I find MSN works brilliantly for webcam contact. : - ) |
