Others If u were born in Australia u can be one. but... if u were born in the u.s. like i was or some other country than your going to have to move to Australia and live there for about 14 yrs... somewhere about there and then after about 14 years of living there they'll give u a Australia passport. If one of your parents was born in Australia then it will take you less years to become a Australia citizen. i dont think your going to do this but since you werent born in australia (right?) then u cant run for Australia president even if ur a australia citizen. You may be exempt from this requirement if you have permanent physical or mental incapacity 5. Good Character Requirement You must be of good character. If you have lived in any country for a total of 1 year since you were granted a permanent resident visa you must provide overseas police clearance certificates for each country in which you have lived since your permanent residence visa was granted. Residence overseas can be a continuous period or cumulative periods totalling 12 months or more between the grant of a permanent visa and applying for citizenship. Police certificates are not required for persons under the age of 16 years. 7. Requirement of Intention You must intend to reside in Australia or maintain a close and continuing association with Australia.
