Can I get medicare in Australia?

I'm an Australian citizen, but I have been living in the states since I was 5, I'm now 20. I'm going to Australia next year for a study abroad program with my university from Feb-June. Can I get medicare while I'm there? My mom wasn't sure if I could anymore since I haven't lived there for a long time.

I'm not sure as you are not a resident of Australia and you are probably not paying taxes in Australia but your parents might be.
Contact Medicare on line and you may be able to download an application form that asks the pertinent question.

Yes, as an Australian citizen you can get medicare. I am no longer a resident of Australia however as an Australian citizen I can still claim under Medicare (I did last week in fact on a visit to Australia). You will need to enrol at an office of Medicare.
