Travel Info Hey, heading to australia for a year in october, any good ideas on what i definatly have to do while im there??? Travel Tips You don't say where your starting out. This is going to be a long one! I went in October and started in: Sydney (3 months but I know folk that spent the whole year there - try not to). Climbed bridge, worked in office beside Darling harbour, drank (a lot), Chrismas Day on Bondi, New Year at the Rocks, Australia Day on a cruise of the harbour (beer and shrimps), Toured all the north and southern beaches, visited blue Mountains Melbourne at end of January. St Kilda festival, free concerts in the park, mambo festival, Melbourne jail, Flinders Ranges (actually on way to Scottish butchers to find haggis and square sausage), Comedy festival, Casino. Stayed 3 months - no job Caught overnight ferry to Tasmania and hired car, forgot to take my drivers liscence but the hire company didn't care (I love Aussies) - Fraycenet penisula, Cradle mountain, Hobart Coach tour along Great Ocean road to Adelaide Trip from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island - kangaroos, penguins, koalas, emus seals, dolphins (first time I has seen wildlife since arriving in Oz, except for the dead Tasmanian Devil in Tasmania). Went diving Bus from Adelaide to Cooper Pedey and stayed in underground backpackers Uluru Back to Adelaide and train across nullabor to Perth (2 and a half days) Hired car from Perth and toured south west Oz-Albany, Wave Rock, Pemberton, climed the Glouster Tree ( I dare ou to do it), Valley of the Giants Back to Perth and worked for 3 months in internet cafe. Northbridge for night life, Rottnest Island, Kings Park, Fremantle, Cottesloe Beach, Scarborough Bus up west coast to Darwin, stopping at The pinnacles, Kalbarri, Monkey Mia, Exmouth, Broome, Helicopter over the Bungle Bungles, Darwin (2 weeks) slept in swag under starts in Kakadu National Park, Litchfield Park Flew to Brisbane (5 wks) - surfers, Noosa, Frazer Island, Sail round Whitsundays, Sky dive Cairns-cape tridbulation, magnetic island relocated a camper van from Brisbane back to Syndey then flew to NZ for 6 months. None of this I experience on my own as I always met people along the way,. Some trips I did with them, some I met them on. It was all wonderful but the peopel were definately the best thing, even if they were only in my life for one day. You'll have a great time and, now being an old married lady with two wee kids, I am green with envy Others Learn grammar and how to spell! Start with an afternoon Sydney Harbour Explorer cruise for some of the best views of the city. Follow with a tour of the Rocks, the nation's birthplace, and take a sunset walk up onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The following day, take a Sydney Explorer tour to the famous Sydney Opera House and relax at sunset in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Domain South, and Domain North parks. On the third day, explore the city center, with another spectacular panorama from the Sydney Tower. Include a walk around Macquarie Street, a living reminder of Sydney's colonial history, and the contrasting experience of futuristic Darling Harbour, with its museums, aquarium, caf茅s, and lively shops. Whitsundays, barrier reef, syndey at new year, bondi beach, loads get a lonely planet guide or rough guide, plus you can do the jump on jump off bus rides across the country. Learn English completely well and do IELTS and score 6 and half band and show some necessary balance in your account and also work there if u are going to study and also tell ur university they will guide u for a job part time and in other schedule u continue with ur work or study. well if ur sensible dont go to sydney first!!!!! u will end up staying there, just leave it till last!!! because im from ireland and every month there is about 5 people going from around my area, its like home from home which in one way is nice but in an other ur not really opening ur horizons, havent been myself but dont be typical like us irish and travel around first then sydney!!!!!!!! mmmmmkkkkkkkkaaaaaayyyy scuba dive the OUTER barrier reef. Dive from the Anaconda that sails out from Airlie beach through the Whitsunday islands. If you dont scuba book a course on the boat. Book in advance as they are the best and need about 3-6 months notice. If in Brisbane use the palace backpackers near the station grab a few beers and chill on the roof after ya night out. Best just read all the notices on the board at each backpackers for local news and grrrreat ideas. Don't plan too much just 'wing it' and have fun |
