My husband and I are getting ready to take a trip to Sydney Austrailia, can someone give me some info on it? |
Travel Info I would love to hear from someone who acually lives there. What are some of the best places to go? What is the best time of year to go? We are thinking we are going to go in April, how is the weather in april? Any other info would be great!!! Travel Tips I've been living there since the day i was born .. You've gotta check out Chinatown in the city, obviously the Darling Harbour bridge & Opera House, the Botanic Gardens are pretty for a picnic .. umm.. for old-18-1900s style British-influenced Sydney, go to The Rocks (very historical) , um there's great shopping at Westfield Shopping Centre in Parramatta, check out all the main streets in the City .. Hyde Park (Sydney's version of New York's Central Park, without the snow) .. ooooh the beaches ! Bondi Beach - can't miss that, plus Manly Beach (take a ferry to go there) , or Coogee Beach. If you want to eat in luxury style, get up to The Rocks, Woolloomooloo (very nice but expensive) or any city areas. Surry Hills is a nice casual place .. umm .. well i cant think of anything else. It's just a nice atmosphere, it should be nice wherever you go (but try to avoid the Western suburbs, eg Macquarie Fields, Cabramatta, Lakemba.. there's continous trouble involving racial issues there, among MANY other issues. As a tourist, you'll probably get conned or tricked too !) . Stick to the beautiful city and yeah .. best time of year is probably Autumn, so i guess April is a good time. Oh yeah, Sydney weather is sometimes quite unpredictable .. the seasons seem mixed up ! Bring an umbrella and some pieces of warm clothing but if you're going in April, normal Summer-Autumn clothes should do. HAVE FUN = ] and don't forget to check your luggage for the customs rules ; you don't wanna be detained ! Others go to first of course opera house and harbour bridge. But the best places are out of syd....if u wanna see nature from close then visit Blue Mountains, Wollongong, and avalon.....these r really stunning places, but they r nearly 1-2 hours drive out of syd.....else u can visit bondi beach n u can see da hustle n bustle of syd on sat nites in city.....And april would b a great time 2 visit cuz its not so hot n not so cold in dis month...... First I must telll you that you are in for quite a treat. Australia is a marvelous country. I would rec. that you join a club called "Affordable Travel " It cost $65.00 a year to belong,but then when you travel overseas, you stay in peoples homes for 30.00 a night including breakfast. If your traveling in the US it is 20.00. The "club" is has members all over the world and you are sent a book with all of their names and pertinent information. We have the name of the mst delightful couple who live minutes away from Sydney (you just take the ferry across the Bay) My friends and I have used Affordable Travel many times and each experience was a "good" one and we still correspond with most of our past hosts. PS April is great and if you can afford it booking a cruise for 3 nights on the Reef Odyessy to sail around the reefs and the Whitensey (sp?) Islands is something you will never forget. Im an Aussie. They weather is very pleasant around April. It's a bit chilly in the mornings. It doesn't snow in Sydney. Actually the weather is mild most of the year round although extremely hot around January and December. Go to Darling Harbour, Taronga Zoo, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Rocks area, Maritime Museum and take a Harbour cruise. Also go the Blue Mountains which is only 3 hours drive from the GPO. Visit Katoomba , see the three sisters and walk many of the bushwalks in the Blue mountains. Also go to the National Park and visit many of our golden beaches. Born and bred there. I don't live in Sydney but my brother does and we visit him often. ~~ April is Autumn, a lovely time to visit Sydney. As is Spring. You will be missing the hot summers we experience in down under. ~~ There is a lot to see in Sydney, it is a very cosmopolitan city. Excellent dining, shopping and nightlife. ~~ I would recommend you take a cruise on the Harbour, it is first rate. A birds-eye view of the Harbour and city. There are dining cruises available ~~ Something else that is great fun (exercise and very rewarding is the Bridge Climb - the view is worth the climb). ~~ The famous Opera House has guided tours. ~~ If you like the beach, our famous Bondi is still pleasant in April. Bondi is more than just the beach, there are many excellent cafes, seafood restaurants and bars & clubs on the seafront and all the way back to Bondi Junction. ~~ I have included a great link for you. So come and you'll be made welcome! Autumn in Sydney can be wet. April is the third wettest month of the year after March and June with a median rainfall of 93mm on 12 days so you can expect rain one day in three. The driest month is September - which is when the Olympic Games were held (for that reason). It is still warm during the day with an average maximum of 23掳C but the average minimum is 14.7掳 so take a jacket or something warm for evenings. There is a Sydney Explorer bus that you can get off and on anywhere on its circuit. It links many of the city attractions such as museums and the art gallery, the Opera House etc. There is a lovely walk from under the Bridge past the Overseas Passenger Terminal and the Museum of Contemporay Art to Circular Quay and on to the Opera House then through the Botanic gardens to Mrs Macquarie's Chair. Another very peaceful walk is from the Quay through the rocks and up Argyle St through the Argyle Cut then left up Observatory Hill to the Observatory. If you need refreshment on the way up or back (or both) the Lord Nelson and Hero of Waterloo hotels argue about which is the oldest pub in Australia. The Lord Nelson brews its own beer, try it. Ferry trips to Manly and Taronga Zoo are a must and the Rivercat to Parramatta is worth the trip. Go to the top of Centrepoint Tower. It is much cheaper than climbing the Bridge with better views in my opinion and you can have lunch or dinner up there in one of the two restaurants. If you are going in April, Sydney plays Brisbane In the Australian Football League at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday 15th in the afternoon. They have a Saturday night game there against Melbourne on the 28th. Both should be entertaining games (with Sydney winning of course). Nightlife in Sydney is varied with something for everyone. Most hotels will have free papers describing what is on at many different venues. Check the Halftix website http://www.halftix.com.au which offers theatre tickets, including the Opera House, at 30-40% off normal prices. These are usually tickets for performances that night. Not everything is available, some performances are sold out, but you can get some great bargains. |
