How long is the apple season and what is the season for apple in australia? |
Travel Info From which month until which month. Travel Tips The apple tree cycle is 6 months on (flowering, fruiting) and 6 months off (loosing last of leaves, dormant and then getting ready to shoot again). There are thousands of apple varieties and they can generally be grouped in three categories - early (gravensteins) mid (cox's) and late (delicious) which basically refers to the part of the harvest period that should be ready to harvest. I have found with my trees that the earliest of them breaks (starts to grow leaves and flower) around the first or second week of September the latest probably at the end of september. The apples are ready (depending on the cultivar) from first week of Feb through to end of March which means that they have about a 5 and half to 6 month period from flowering to being ripe on the tree. Of course orchardists generally pick the apples before they are ripe or when they are just starting to ripen as they will continue to ripen off the tree and if put into cold storage (refrigerated) that will slow the process down. If left on the tree (assuming bird and parrots arnt a problem) they will often hang on the tree until overipe and some will stick it out until well after all of the leaves have dropped! I would suggest that the harvesting period (depending on cultivars) is generally a 3-4 month period around end of Jan through to end of April Source(s): 10 apple trees and used to work both in an orchard and nursery.
