If you were decision-maker how would you solve the problem of China and Taiwan reunification?

Travel Tips
From the viewpoint of a mixed Chinese-Taiwanese family that lives in America...

TAIWAN NEEDS INDEPENDENCE!!!!

There is no way that the Chinese government can govern Taiwan without some sort of upheaval in how the entire infrastructure is run. The problem of China and Taiwan reunification is not a problem -- it does not exist!

Taiwan should never, ever, enter into negotiations with the crappy communist gov of China, so overrun with gabbling politicans (see the first comment and remember our buddy Mao) and CORRUPT officials that are only in it for themselves.

For example, at my dad's hometown, in China, which will remain nameless, the mayors and police accept brides and invitations to parties to ignore the drug-dealing and violent gang activity that occurs!!!

Is that the "people's republic"?!?!?

I think not!!!

And once China is (as you so very nicely put it) "reunified", the same beauracracy will corrupt Taiwan.

Now, I'm not saying that Taiwan is much better, because it isn't, but let them figure it out for themselves. All the people there have a strong interest in politics, much more than the suppressed of China do, and are, as such, much better equipped for handling their own problems!! China doesn't need to interfere.

P.S. The politican above, for even suggesting that China should make her move while the US is preoccupied in another part of the world just illustrates my point!!!!!

He's also a tricky Chinese politican.
Others
As a Chinese politician, I would let them keep greater autonomy as it is difficult and dangerous to take away rights from people.

However, I would expect tax revenue and such to be at the same level as in other Chinese states.

They would need to recognize China as the central government. I would arrest any leaders who refused to go along with that plan.

I would make the transition while the USA is wrapped up in other conflicts.

If I was a leader in Taiwan I would be worried. I would negotiate for as much freedom as I could get in return for a peace full and speedy transition.
Taiwan is 20x better than China.
PRC should be changed as CCC(crappy communists' gov of China) .
I think the Chinese and the Taiwanese ask themselves the same question, but they still have not found an answer.
Short answer: I would do what's now being done by the KMT and the CCP; become friends with the same (greater) goal.

Long answer: It's just my opinion, but I think the recent almost-friendship between the KMT (Chinese Nationalist party), and the CCP (Chinese Communist Party of the mainland), is basically a way to move toward reunification.
I think the CCP has told the KMT, if they agree to reunification under CCP rule, and keep the DPP from allowing Taiwan to declare independence, the CCP will allow the KMT to remain as the dominant party in what would become (again) Taiwan province.
Let's face it. The top leaders of the KMT and the CCP have the same objectives now; make China strong politically and economically and get rich individually. I don't think they'll let a little thing like the hatred between Chiang and Mao get in their way anymore.
I think this is also why both China and Taiwan (namely the KMT) have been focusing on the legacy of Sun Yat Sen, who is reverred as the father of both modern China and the KMT.

Great question!
Tell China to mind their own business and leave Taiwan and the Taiwanese people alone.
