What is the average monthly expenses for a single in Taiwan? |
Travel Info What is the average monthly expenses for a single in Taiwan? Travel Tips Hello Chicken Mayonnaise Sandwich, this largely depends on the answers to these questions: 1. Your lifestyle? 2. Where do you live in Taiwan? 3. Are you renting an apartment? 4. Will you be using a car, or a scooter, to go to work ? Ok, these are the only questions I can think of that have singnificant bearings to your topic. Now, let's say that you are the most frugal person in the world; so frugal that even the sight of a street beggar can't induce you to shell out a few coins for the person (much more own a credit card, or shop like there's no tomorrow.) Let's also say that the company you work for pays all your apartment bills (including rental fees, gas, water & electricity.) Add to this, that you're not the type to go out to movies on weekends, but would rather stay home to do homework, sleep or rent DVDs from your local Blockbuster store (which is within walking distance.) Also put in the fact that you buy and do your own cooking all of the time. I'd say you can live with $3,000 NT/month. This includes your scooter gasoline and four of the LATEST DVD movies ($100/movie.) Your expenses will start to go uphill once any of the scenarios above changes. If you're renting a modest apartment by yourself, then you may have to add around $10,000~$13,000 NT/ month (including water, electricity, etc..) If you always eat out and eat good, then an additional $4,000~$5,000 is called for, depending on that inner gourmet of yours. Remember that people tend to eat "better" during weekends, and there are eight weekend days in a month!!!! Please note that this is an addition to the $3,000 basic allowance that you already have. Movies cost around $280 bucks here. Please do the math. If you'll be driving a car, I think you have to add another $1,500 to the budget. I don't drive a car, but I remember a colleague telling me once that this is the average gasoline expense per month. I could be wrong, though. It could be much higher than that. Internet, phone, cellphone, international calls (egad!!,) around $2,000 modestly speaking. Again, this depends on the rate of usage and length of times. This is BASICALLY it. I said "basically" because I didn't put your shopping habits into consideration. Shopping as in clothes, beauty things, accessories, etc.. Others i lived a modest existence but didnt drink or smoke at all. no I am not a monk nor do I care if you wish to do so. I went out about 2x-4x a week and averaged about 30,000 NT spent per month. (scooter/apartment costs factored in.) if you go out for ALL your meals it probably is more. startup costs (the first 6 months or so) you wont save so much. You will have to get an apartment/scooter/security deposit/furniture ac costs can get up there if you need it. (likely you will want it) i can get by with an electric fan for most days but I am weird. Hi there, I would mostly agree with Robert. Something he didn't figure in, though, is where in Taiwan you'll be staying. If you stay in Taipei your rent would probably be about NT10 000 or more, but in the rural areas and smaller counties you can mostly rent a (semi furnished) apartment for about NT$6 000. Food is also much cheaper in rural Taiwan. I eat 2 meals a day at Chinese take away shops (often little stalls that prepare food on the street or small restaurants that prepare Chinese meals). My food budget for these meals are around NT1400 a month. And don't worry, the food is clean and well prepared. Another factor you have to take into consideration is travelling around. To travel in Taiwan is very rewarding, as there are some exquisite sites to explore. If you're only here for work, and no play, that shouldn't bother you. But if you want to travel a little, budget an extra NT$1500 for travelling expenses. All in all, I budget an average of NT$ 11 000 per month for living expenses, including rent, gas and water, telephone, internet, travelling, meals, basic necessities and entertainment. Hope the info helps. |
