Taipei Holiday (Shopping Areas, Place of Interests, Hotel)?

Travel Info
Hi, I'm going for a holiday with my family to Taipei for the 1st time but not sure where are the places we should visit.
1) Which hotel should we stay? (Near to shopping areas,
transport convenience & nice eating places)
2) Where are the shopping areas & night markets we
definitely must go?
3) Is there any theme park there as we are bringing a child
along?
4) Where are the places of interests?

Pls do give me some feedbacks as we are looking forward to our Taiwan trip. Thanks! ;)

Travel Tips
1) Check the listings at http://taiwanfun.com/ (ignore the personals at the side) for hotels ect.
The place I recommend staying if you visit is at any hotspring resort hotel in Xin-Bei-Tou. Its a beautiful (if overdeveloped) area and has some nice sights to see and its nice to come back after exploring and sitting in your amazingly boutique room and soaking up a hot spring. You can get to the area using the MRT like most spots in Taipei.

2. Shr-Lin night market is an area most people recommend seeing in Taipei. Taipei 101's shopping mall is quite good and you can see many department stores bordering it nearby.
once again check http://taiwanfun.com/ for more listings of such places.

3. The Taipei city zoo is actually a suprisingly fun place to go for the day if you have some sun protection with you. Probably most kids would like it there. The exhibits are well set up, some english is available on signs and for the most part the animals enclosures are reasonably comfortable representations of the environments the animals can exist in. Of course the green tinged polar bears were a bit much for me (its algae- seemingly harmless- the climate control has limits)... but they seem happy enough. Of course if you are anti-zoo then you can ignore all I just said and go elsewhere.
other places worth taking a kid: Bai Sha Wan waterpark nearby on the north coast is pretty good. you may want to avoid it on a weekend or if it is summer vacation's beginning when you arrive.
McDonalds is always an option when junior gets antsy- for air conditioned cheap entertainment for the young'uns. just walk one way for 5 blocks anywhere you stand and you will find one.
plenty of parks have been created recently around taipei for running/flying kites catching snails and large bugs and the like. it will take time for the trees to grow to a decently shady level but it is still good in the early morning or late afternoon after the nuclear radiator (sun) has eased up a bit.
many swimming pools exist for people who dislike lining up in the sunshine at BaiShaWan.

4) Taipei 101 is well worth seeing and even the hardest to please kid will enjoy being able to brag about being up on the (currently) tallest building in the WORLD. As well as the fastest elevator. Amazingly you don't feel your guts falling out as you go up like a rocket without any perceptible feeling of having done 70+ floors in 30 seconds.
The National Palace Museum is a Must see- all the artifacts and crown jewels from the pre-PRC china and all their smashing/melting during the various great leaps backwards have survived here and are on display. every 6 months they change it- it would take over 3 years to see everything.
probably junior will get tired after 2 hours or so unless he is really into ancient chinese artifacts. After about the 300th golden 'award bowl' I get a bit lagged too.
everything I just mentioned should be available to get to using public transit. The MRT is a must see itself. (subway)
Yangmingshan has some volcanic hot spots worth seeing (bubbling waterholes and smelly sulphur fields and the like)

Others
1) Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei
No. 160 Jen Ai Road, Section 3, 10657 Taipei, Taiwan. Tel: +886 (2) 2700 2323, Fax: +886 (2) 2700 0729
Great location - great restaurants, in the heart of Taipei, close to shopping - the newest Sogo department store on Chung Hsiao East Road, not to mention all the stores nearby.

2) In addition to Chung Hsiao East Road stores, take a taxi from Howard to Taipei 101. There's also New York New York Mitsukoshi, and others. Check out Eslite Book Store - 24-hour bookstore and they have a childrens floor with games and also a museum on the 4th floor.

Also try the shaved milk ice in the basement of Taipei 101. It's excellent! For lunch, go to Jogoya - excellent buffet.

There are many night markets in Taipei - Shilin is probably the most popular - check out the Taipei Travel website for more information - http://taipeitravel.net/article.asp?pcod...

3) Taipei City Zoo is awesome - you could take the MRT 2 blocks from Howard. My kids loved the zoo last time we visited. There is also a Zoo Mall just outside the Zoo. Admission is probably the cheapest of any zoo I've been to. NT$60 for adults and NT$30 for children. That's only US$2 and US$1 respectively.

4) National Palace Museum is a must if you visit Taipei.

Hi,

Theres alot of different options for hotels in Taipei depending on where you want to be. I would check out the following site as they usually have reviews/prices and maps showing you where each hotel is. Very helpful!

http://www.linkforwards.com/hotels...
http://www.linkforwards.com/hotels...
1) I would always recommend Rainbow Hotel, which is situated in the heart of Xi men Ding.

2) Major shopping areas are
i] Xi Men Ding ofcoz.
ii] Taipei 101. There is a concentration of shopping centres such as Newyork new york, Pageone bookstore has the widest selection of books, and many other shopping centre chains.
iii] For bargains, do visit WuFenPu for unique and relatively cheap clothings.

As for night markets, i would recommend you make a trip to Shilin night market and JiLong Miao Kou night market (which is rather far actually). There is one near WuFenPu shopping district.

3) No idea.

4) New Bei tou for hot spring baths. Be prepared to go public.
Yang Ming Shan for fresh veggi dishes. I've seen and ate the weirdest kinds of veggi up in Yang Ming Shan.
Dan Shui for sunset and foood.

Please do eat fruits while u are in Taiwan. Their fruits are exceptionally nice! i dont know why!
Of course, Their infamous bubble tea are sooo reowned for a reason!

Hope you'd have a blast there!
Hi, have a look at http://www.unusedrooms.com/specials/city... and insert your travel dates in the box provided. A full list of hotels will be displayed and you can narrow your search down to a suburb or say city centre which also shows a map with all the hotels on.
For places of interest and tours etc try http://www.affiliate.viator.com/brochure... . You will find a lot of information here that I hope will be helpful to you.
