Travel Info
im going to taiwan, and i have everything paid for i just need spending money, how much money should i bring ( i want good brand name things). i just dont no how much everything is ther, and also is everyhting cheaper?

Travel Tips
Things that are international brand name items are generally the same price as what you pay overseas, minus the other countries taxes. So often you will only save about 10%.

Its hard to say how much you need, but if you have a credit card you should survive if you are looking for upmarket brand name things.

For strict survival money you can get by on as low as under 10$ Us (200NT) a day for food ect, if you just eat at street vendors and 7-11. If you want to live comfortably and dont purchase any high end items and go to average restaurants about budget 40-50USD (1000NT) a day.

Most cool looking clothes (at night markets ect- go for about 100Nt to 600 NT (for ok to average shirts) and 800- 1200NT and up for brand name type shirts depending on the name and the quality..
The pants are about the same.
shoes/skirts/bags I dunno. I am a boy and currently its not my business to sell or buy that stuff.

If you are going all out for shopping, I have no idea how much you can spend, but certain famous Taiwanese CEO wives have been known to spend over 6 million USD in one day at one department store. So don't worry, if you want it you will find it here.
(except for gravy on fried chicken LOL)
Others
bring all that you can, this way you won't be disappointed if you run out, but keep it safe. As soon as you get to your hotel, ask them to put it in their safe.
The cost of living is much lower than it is here in the States (obviously). Items like food, housing, and transportation are generally a lot cheaper, especially given the exchange rate between the dollar and yuan. I'm not sure what you intend to purchase abroad but if you're looking to spend money on designer items, it's probably still more affordable to buy them here than in Taiwan unless we're talking about brand-name rip-offs. What to budget totally depends on the nature of your trip and what your primary activities will be. It also depends on how long you plan to stay. Will you be acting the tourist or are you visiting relatives/friends? Also, will you be in Taipei or some other rural/suburban location?
Hi,

For Branded stuff, you can also head for Tian Mu (Zhongshan N Rd-Sec 7) Take the MRT to Shipai, exit on the right side, walk to traffic lights, on your left is the bus stop - R19 all the way to the end. Walk down the Left side of the road for the Export Outlet shops - They have DKNY, Polo for women, Boss , Nautica e.t.c. with price ranging from NTD490/- to 690/- average a bit more for jackets and stuff. As normal - you have to hunt for bargains.

You can also take bus 220 from anywhere on Zhongshan N Rd to the end.

As a guy, I hunt as well as any woman and have got nice stuff there including Hard Rock cafe Denim Shirts, Guess jeans and hoodies , Bossini (export stuff) at really bargain prices.

Best time to go is after 2pm - For ambience after 6pm has a better atmosphere. Most shops close after 9pm. There is a nice inexpensive Steak House called Cafe Onion there if you get hungry.
Emily, I don't know if I can help you at all as I am not into branded stuff much, but if you should shop for jewelry, and happen to be shopping at Taipei 101, then you can have a 5^% tax rebate at the airport in your departure; just don't throw away the receipts immediately. Most likely, the store clerks will tell you all about it.

Two related things I'm not sure about:
1.) In Taipei 101, I don't know if the rebate only applies to jewelry. Maybe it also applies to other luxury & brand-name items. Ask.
2.) I don't know if other department stores (besides Shinkong Mitsukoshi and Taipei 101) also have this tax rebate offer.

*Experience from my aunt who happened to shop for jewelry at 101.
