Fund managers manage other people's money and is compensated base on a pre-arranged agreement which may include one or more of the following:
(1) fixed salary
(2) bonus based on performance of fund
(3) a percentage of fund under management annually

fund managers are the so-called experts in helping you place your money where it can make more money. there are different kinds of fund managers that charges you a fee when you make money OR charges you for handling the money, win or lose. it is more or less giving up control of your funds for someone who you believe can take better care of your "hard-earned" funds without NOT GUARANTEES that it will make money for you. they may dabble in stocks, mutual funds and the like and even extends to properties. it is always their motto to be flashy so that it catches the attention of the prospective investors. so, never give up the right of last consent before any moves are made...let them tell you of the available opportunities but not decide for you. regrets come later in the day and it is not that they have historically good track records that the succeeding investments turn out to be okay also. :)
